He completed his schooling at two additional institutions: the ‘Tynwald Street Infants School’ and the ‘Desmesne Road Boys School’.

He created the rock-and-roll band ‘The Rattlesnakes’ with his brothers Maurice and Robin in 1955, supported by his neighbours Kenny Horrocks and Paul Frost. He also played guitar for his band, which included Buddy Holly, Paul Anka, and Cliff Richards. On December 28, 1957, the ensemble made its professional debut at the ‘Gaumont Cinema.’

The group, however, disintegrated the following year when the Gibb family relocated and the band’s name was altered to ‘Wee Johnny Hayes and the Blue Cats’. Within a few months, the group was renamed the ‘Bee Gees’. They were discovered in 1959 while performing at the ‘Redcliffe Speedway’ by a DJ, Bill Gates, who was blown away by Barry’s original songs, ‘(Underneath the) Starlight of Love’ and ‘Let Me Love You’.

Between 1961 and 1962, the ensemble performed in local bars in Surfer’s Paradise’s Gold Coast region, after the promising young musician dropped out of school. The following year, the family relocated to Sydney, Australia.

In 1963, ‘Festival Records’ signed the ‘Bee Gees’ and assigned them to their connected firm, ‘Leedon’. The band recorded their professional debut song, ‘The Battle of the Blue and the Grey’, under this umbrella.

For the next three years, various musicians, including Sandy Summers, Trevor Gordon, Anne Shelton, and Michelle Rae, recorded songs written by the ‘Bee Gees’.

Songs such as ‘One Road,’ ‘I Just Don’t Like to Be Alone,’ and ‘I Was a Lover, A Leader of Men’ charted at the top of the Australian charts. The band went on to achieve success with songs such as ‘I Started a Joke,’ ‘Playdown,’ and ‘With the Sun in My Eyes,’ before relocating to England in 1967.

Apart from performing their own songs, they also sang backup vocals on Adam Faith’s cover of Maurice and Robin’s lyrics, ‘Cowman, Milk Your Cow’.

Terry Cox replaced Peterson as the band’s drummer once again. The trio collaborated with Cox on twelve tracks for the album ‘Odessa,’ five of which were featured. By the end of 1969, the group had disintegrated completely, and Barry was left to work on solo material.

In 1970, as a solo artist, the extraordinary singer released a song titled ‘I’ll Kiss Your Memory’, which was intended to be included on an album titled ‘The Kid’s No Good’. However, the album was never released, and the remaining songs are only available as bootlegs today.

The next year, the ‘Bee Gees’ reformed and released songs such as ‘Lonely Days,’ ‘How Can You Mend a Broken Heart,’ ‘Saw a New Morning,’ and ‘Life in a Tin Can.

Between 1975 and 1980, the ‘Bee Gees’ issued hits such as ‘Nights on Broadway’, ‘I Just Want to Be Your Everything’, and ‘Saturday Night Fever’ under their new recording artist, Arif Mardin. The latter was performed by their brother Andy, who had newly joined the band.

In 1978, the eldest brother acted as Mark Henderson in the film ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Barry assisted in the 1980s in the release of his brother’s ‘Andy Gibb’s Greatest Hits’ and singer Barbra Streisand’s ‘Guilty’ albums, which both achieved commercial success.

Simultaneously, the gifted guitarist contributed to Kenny Rogers’ chart-topping album, ‘Eyes That See in the Dark.’ Between 1984 and 1988, he released the solo albums ‘Now Voyager’ and ‘Moonlight Madness’, which featured the hits ‘Shine, Shine’ and ‘Fine Line’.
