All of my music is made on my iPad using GarageBand, as is the case with all of it. I’ve collaborated with a few others on this project. I can’t wait to show it off to everyone. It’s going to be entirely new things for the most part.  Because I’m now in a long-distance relationship, it means a lot to me. Having to drive great distances to see my partner, who is in Boston, is difficult at times, and the song addresses both sensible and irrational concerns I have about long-distance relationships.

My parents drilled music into me from a young age. I began learning piano, violin, and guitar at the age of four and then stopped for a while, but I’m glad I did. I no longer practise classical music in the traditional sense. Since we moved around a lot during high school, I turned to songwriting as a way to process my feelings and cope with the stresses of being a teenager. Which is a bit of a cliché, but it’s the truth.

Then, from my sophomore year of high school until my freshman year of college, I wrote songs nonstop. My younger brother persuaded me to sign up for an account on TikTok, a bizarre video-sharing software that he was always using. You’ve got to download it,” he kept insisting. “You could do so much with it,” he said.

“That’s not going to happen,” I told him, “You’re simply spouting falsehoods.” This is where I am now, thanks to the success of a few of my TikTok videos. My current girlfriend and I met about two years ago when we were both talking on the phone. When she showed me a video of one of her friends playing the ukulele at a talent event and exclaimed, “Oh my God, it’s so cool. “She’s very gifted,” I exclaimed. That’s when I had the thought, “Oh my God, I have to learn the ukulele so I can wow this girl.”

In high school, we had a class where we learned how to use GarageBand on our iPads to create music. To this day, it’s the single most valuable lesson I took away from high school. It had a greater impact than trigonometry ever could. In other words, I prefer to go about things my way. As a result, having complete control over my creative output, rather than having to share it with another artist or producer (or whoever), is really beneficial for me. This isn’t the first time I’ve worked with incredible musicians. However, most of the time, I like to work alone. Actually, I didn’t anticipate it to do so well. It’s a good story, but I’ve heard it a million times before and I’m bored of it. I used to write songs based on suggestions left by my fans on TikTok, where they would post lyrics or song ideas. During that time, I was dealing with some personal troubles involving friends and other things. The relationships I had at the time were riddled with toxicity.

Using a second TikTok account, I said, “Oh, you should compose a song about toxic friends,” and then realised that one of my followers had said the same thing to my [main] TikTok. Just write a song about it,” I said. Because of the significance of the subject matter in my life at that time, I decided to record the song.
