Brian Chesky is an American industrial designer and businessman. He is the co-founder and CEO of Airbnb. He was born in Niskayuna, New York, on August 29, 1981, to Deborah and Robert H. Chesky. His father is of Polish ancestry, while his mother is Italian.

Brian Chesky worked as an industrial designer and strategist at 3DID in Los Angeles after graduating from college. As the Industrial Designers Society of America held its conference in San Francisco, he was sharing an apartment with Gebbia.
The hotel rooms were all reserved for this meeting. Since the couple was having trouble paying their deposit, they agreed to rent their apartment to conference attendees for a fee. They devised the concept of “Airbed and Breakfast” and purchased three air mattresses for the three visitors who spent the first night at their home.
Nathan Blecharczyk, a Harvard alum and technical architect, joined Airbnb as the third co-founder in February 2008. Each co-founder assumed a different position, with Chesky taking over as the company’s leader and CEO. To raise money for their business, Chesky and his co-founders came up with a creative concept and created limited-edition cereals focused on presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain, dubbed “Obama O’s” and “Cap’n McCains,” respectively. Y Combinator, a seed funding firm, was intrigued by the limited-edition cereals and invited Airbnb into their network.
The corporation quickly expanded across Europe, opening several offices. Chesky revealed in 2011 that a 24-hour hotline will be open to handle resident complaints, as well as extra staff assistance in the event of fraud or vandalism.
More than 120,000 people stayed in Airbnb homes during the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Airbnb was valued at $20 billion in March 2015. Airbnb became a sponsor of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2015.
Chesky was added to Forbes’ list of America’s Wealthiest Entrepreneurs Under 40 in 2015. He was also included in TIME’s list of the “100 Most Influential People in 2015.” He was appointed an Ambassador of Global Entrepreneurship by then-US President Barack Obama in May 2015. He supported Warren Buffett and Bill Gates’ “The Giving Vow” in 2016, in which a consortium of billionaires pledge to give away the rest of their money. In 2016, he was also named to Forbes’ Youngest 400 list.
