Burna Boy was born on 2 July 1991 in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. He known as Burna Boy professionally is a musician, songwriter, rapper, and dancer from Nigeria. He is one of the greatest African artists and one of the most influential.

After releasing “Like to Party”, the lead single from his debut studio album L.I.F.EE, he rose to prominence in 2012. (2013). Burna Boy signed globally with Bad Habit/Atlantic Records in the United States and Warner Music Group in 2017. Outside marked his major-label debut with his third studio album. Damini Ogulu was born in the Nigerian city of Port Harcourt. A welding business was run by his father and his mother served as a translator. Benson Idonije, his grandfather, once managed Fela Kuti. His mother, Bose Ogulu, would later become his manager. Ogulu grew up in southern Nigeria and started using FruityLoops to make his own beats. He attended Agbara’s Corona High School and moved to London to pursue his studies. He then studied media technology at the University of Sussex, followed by Oxford Brookes University’s Media Communications and Culture.


On 12 August 2013, Burna Boy’s debut studio album L.I.F.E was released, serving as the follow-up to his second Burn Identity mixtape (2011). Burna Boy released a 4-track collaboration EP with Los Angeles-based electronic duo DJDS on 21 March 2019, titled Steel & Copper. It combines the upbeat melodies of Burna Boy with the slinky trap beats of DJDS. With Afropop and trap, Steel & Copper incorporates elements of dancehall and reggae music.
Burna Boy won Best Foreign Act at the 2019 BET Awards on 24 June 2019. In July 2019, Burna Boy was confirmed as an artist for Apple Music Up Next. His inclusion in the program was followed by an interview with Julie Adenuga with Beats 1 and a short documentary. On 26 July 2019, Burna Boy’s fourth studio album, African Giant, was released. “Six singles supported it: “Gbona”, “On the Low”, Killin Dem”, “Dangote”, “Anybody” and “Pull Up.” He started recording the album in 2018. He told Billboard magazine that the album was his most intimate yet. He first announced plans to release the album in April 2019 and held a private listening session in Los Angeles. On social media, photographs and videos were posted from the listening session.

Burna Boy performed in the One World in April 2020: Together at Home special. Burna Boy was featured on the remix of the viral song “Jerusalema” by South African producer Master KG on 19 June 2020, following the release of several singles in early 2020, by himself and on featured credits. The remix led to the song entering different charts. Burna Boy used his signature style of Afrobeats on the song and also sings partly in the language of isiZulu.

Burna Boy was featured in the song “My Oasis” by Sam Smith, which was released on 30 July 2020. On 14 August 2020, executive produced by Diddy and Mama Burna Bose Ogulu, Burna Boy’s fifth studio album, Twice as Tall, was released. The album became his best-charting project, debuting on the Billboard World Albums Chart at number .


On November 24, 2020, along with other entertainers such as Antibalas, Bebel Gilberto, Anoushka Shankar, and Tianariwen, Burna Boy Album ‘Twice As Tall’ was nominated in the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards under the World Music Album category. This is the second year in a row that the singer earns a nomination in this category. He received an Edison award for African Gii’s World Album category.

His music is described by Burna Boy as Afro-fusion, a genre that combines Afrobeat, dancehall riddims, reggae, American rap and R&B. The Los Angeles Times’ August Brown said that the sound of Burna Boy is “savvy and modern but undistracted by obvious crossover moves”
