Davido Biography:

David Adedeji Adeleke was born in Atlanta, Georgia on November 21, 1992. His father’s name is Adedeji Adeleke and his mother’s name is Vero Adeleke. Davido paused his music career after returning to Nigeria in 2011 and approved to honor his father by registering at Babcock University. After his father paid the university to establish a music department for an inaugural class of one student, he graduated from Babcock in July 2015 with a degree in music.

Davido is the father of three children. He was engaged to Chioma, his third child’s mother.

Career:

In 2011, Davido began work on his debut studio album, Omo Baba Olowo. The music on the album is a combination of Afrobeats and hip hop. The album was produced by Davido in collaboration with Jay Sleek, Maleek Berry, GospelOnDeBeatz, Spellz, Dokta Frabz, Mr. Chidoo, Theory Soundz, and Shizzi. Naeto C, Sina Rambo, B-Red, Kayswitch, Ice Prince, and 2 Face Idibia make appearances on Omo Baba Olowo. Music critics gave it generally negative comments, praising its lyrical content and Davido’s songwriting. At The Headies 2013, the album won Best R&B/Pop Album and was nominated for Album of the Year. At the 2013 Nigeria Entertainment Awards, it was also nominated for Best Album of the Year.

On May 7, 2011, the album’s lead single, “Back When,” featuring Naeto C, was released. Davido produced it, and it received a lot of airplay. Davido and Shizzi collaborated on the album’s second single, “Dami Duro,” which was released on October 30, 2011. Davido stated in an interview posted on the NotJustOk website that he recorded the song in August of that year. Three months after he sent it to some of his friends, the song was leaked. On January 8, 2012, during the Occupy Nigeria protests, the accompanying music video for “Dami Duro” was released.

The third single from the album, “Ekuro,” was released on January 25, 2012. Antwan Smith recorded and directed the music video in Miami. Aramide, a Nigerian singer, performed a soulful rendition of the song. On May 6, 2012, the album’s fourth single, “Overseas,” was released; an incomplete version of the song was leaked prior to its official release. Davido’s 20-track album The Baddest was originally scheduled for release in June 2015, but it was pushed back to October 10 of that year. The album was postponed two days prior to this date due to an unnamed corporation’s interest in distributing it. Davido had previously revealed the album’s cover art and tracklisting. Shizzi, Del B, Spellz, J Fem, Don Jazzy, Puffy Tee, Uhuru, Kiddominant, and Young John were set to produce The Baddest. A few months after signing with Sony, Davido created the record label Davido Music Worldwide (DMW). The label presently represents Dremo, Mayorkun, Yonda, and Peruzzi. On September 5, 2018, the Daily Post reported that a suspected Black Axe cult member apprehended by Nigerian police confessed to being lured into the group with promises of meeting music star Davido. Davido’s country manager, Asa Asika, denied knowledge of Davido being a member of any secret cult groups in a chat with Vanguard on September 15, 2018. Idris Elba introduced him on stage, and he performed many of his hit singles with the backing band The Compozers. The Guardian’s Caroline Sullivan gave the concert four stars out of five, calling Davido a “alpha” and recognizing that “many of his mannerisms are inspired by the American rappers with whom he has worked, including Young Thug and Swae Lee.”

In July, he appeared on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show and was seen in the studio with rapper Nas. Among those who appear on the album are Lil Baby, Nicki Minaj, Nas, Chris Brown, and Young Thug.
