The President of the Punjab Women’s Commission is Manisha Gulati. Capt Amarinder Singh and Razia Sultana, Minister for Social Security and Children’s Development, handed her a letter of appointment to her Monday in Chandigarh. Also present was former Union Minister Preneet Kaur.
Today, Manisha Gulati stated over 26,000 instances of Punjabi brides, harassed by NRI grooms, are pending and all feasible attempts to provide them justice are underway.
After inspecting and listening to women’s problems in Central Patiala prison, Gulati stated: “We are in constant coordination with Canada and the High Commission in Australia to solve NRI bridegrooms’ problems and the Commission will contact foreign departments in other countries to permanently resolve this threat.”
It explicitly said that the committee would advise the religious leaders to save copies of the country’s social security number including all supporting NRI grooms papers before the wedding ceremony so that they can readily trace the situation in the event of fraud. “The decision to adopt Saanjh Kendras’ services is in order to give justice to the Punjabi brides who are the victims of domestic abuse,” she further added. She said.
Gulati toured women’s cells, the skills development facility, and Crèche during her Patiala Central Jail visit and talked with the women inmates. She expressed pleasure with the food and other amenities supplied to the prisoners and their children and cleanliness in women’s cells and underlined that she used such a model in other state prisons.
Senior Superintendent Jail Rajan Kapoor, SDM Patiala Anmol Singh Dhaliwal, SP City Kesar Singh, and other officials were also attending the event.
