K.B. Ganesh Kumar

An Indian actor, television personality, and politician, Keezhoote Balakrishna Ganesh Kumar was born on May 25th, 1967. He is also a politician. He is now working as the Minister of Transport for the Government of Kerala, beginning in December 2023, in the Second Pinarayi Ministry. In addition, he is the current Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the KC(B) seat, which is located in Kollam, Kerala.

In the film Irakal (1985), which was directed by K. G. George, he had his first theatrical appearance as an actor. He has appeared in more than one hundred Malayalam films, playing a wide range of characters in each of them. Between May 2011 and April 2013, he served as the Minister of Forests and Environment, Sports, and Cinema in the Government of Kerala. He lasted until his resignation on April 1, 2013. After winning the election in 2001, he has been serving as the representative for the Pathanapuram seat ever since.

His tenure as Minister of Transport lasted from May 2001 till March 2003. It is his father, R. Balakrishna Pillai, who served as the Minister of Kerala in the past. With the Kerala Congress (B) ticket, Ganesh Kumar was able to win the election for the Kerala Assembly from the Pathanapuram constituency in May of 2001. By a margin of 9,931 votes, he was victorious over his opponent, K. Prakash Babu. Ganesh Kumar’s father, R. Balakrishna Pillai, who had previously served as a minister, had also been elected from the neighboring seat of Kottarakara, which he had held for several decades.

After assuming the position of Transport Minister in the Antony government in May of 2001, Ganesh Kumar went on to give a positive account of himself. Even though he was a political rookie at the time, he was able to turn around the failing KSRTC and gain a reputation for having an administration that was both clean and efficient. As a means of easing the process of his father’s appointment to the Cabinet, he resigned from his ministerial position in March 2003.

After beating K. R. Chandramohanan of the CPI in the 2006 Assembly elections, Ganesh Kumar prevailed once again from Pathanapuram. This time, he achieved a winning margin of 11,814 votes, which was a significant increase from the previous election. As a result of the LDF’s complete victory, which included the acquisition of 11 out of 12 seats in the Kollam District and a substantial majority in the State Assembly, Ganesh Kumar was the lone UDF Member of the Legislative Assembly hailing from the Kollam district.

The election also resulted in the defeat of a number of his former cabinet colleagues, such as M. K. Muneer, P. K. Kunhalikutty, Babu Divakaran, and Balakrishna Pillai, who is Ganesh Kumar’s father. Ganesh Kumar defeated his senior CPM opponent, K. Rajagopal, in the Assembly elections held in 2011. He won all three of his seats from Pathanapuram with an even larger margin of 20,402 votes, so achieving a comprehensive victory.

Following that, in May 2011, he was appointed to the position of Minister for Forests, Sports, and Cinema in the government of Oommen Chandy. It was on April 7, 2013, that his wife Yamini Thankachi filed a charge of domestic assault, which resulted in his resignation from the government. After becoming a candidate for the LDF in the 2016 Assembly elections, Ganesh Kumar became victorious against Jagadish, who was running for the Indian National Congress. The victory was by a margin of 24,562 votes.

He wed Dr. Yamini Thankachy on May 20, 1994. At the time of their wedding, she was working as a senior research fellow at the Achutha Menon Centre for Health Science Studies. She was also working on her doctoral degree in adolescent health sciences. Both of the couple’s boys, Adithyan and Devaraman, are their children. When Kumar’s adultery and domestic violence led to irreparable disagreements between the couple, they eventually divorced. On the 24th of January 2014, Ganesh tied the knot with Bindhu Menon, who has the position of marketing head at Asianet.

Ganesh Kumar had his first appearance in the film Irakal, which was directed by K. G. George and released in the year 1985. According to the jury, the movie was the second-best picture of the year. His career as a supporting actor has allowed him to leave his stamp on the silver screen throughout the last two decades, during which he has played a wide range of parts. Since 2001, he has successfully juggled his duty as an MLA with his acting responsibilities.

Cheppu (1987) and Rakuyilin Ragasadassil are two examples of early films in which Ganesh Kumar commonly played the part of a villain or an anti-social character. In 2005, the movie Lion, which starred Dileep and Kavya Madhavan, was inspired, to a certain extent, by the life of Ganesh Kumar. When it came to the box office, the movie did well. In March 2008, the Frame Media Gallup poll selected Ganesh Kumar as the recipient of the award for best actor for his performance in the Amrita television series Aliyanmarum Penganum.

As a result of his performance in the television series Madhavan, which was shown on Surya TV, he was awarded the State Award for Best Television Actor in the year 2007. Fenny Balakrishnan, who had previously worked as a lawyer and counsel for Saritha S. Nair, the primary suspect in the solar scam that occurred in 2013, had made significant claims against Ganesh Kumar. He said that Ganesh Kumar had added four pages to Saritha S. Nair’s letter, increasing the total number of pages to 25.

In the year 2018, he was accused of assaulting a young person during a road rage incident, which resulted in the young person being taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries. He is facing accusations of allegedly manhandling a school headmaster during an event that took place at the school later that year. B. On December 29, Ganesh Kumar and Kadannappalli Ramachandran are scheduled to take their oaths as cabinet ministers in Kerala, according to EP Jayarajan, the chairperson of the Left Democratic Front (LDF), who announced at a news conference on Sunday.

Following a gathering of the Left Front, the formal statement about the event for the inauguration of the newly appointed ministers was distributed.EP Jayarajan asserts that the Chief Minister would be the one to decide which portfolios the newly appointed ministers will be responsible for. Following two and a half years of the second administration headed by Pinarayi, Ganesh, and Kadannappally have been appointed to positions within the cabinet. This decision is by a power-sharing agreement that was previously made within the LDF.
