Kattassery Joseph Yesudas, often known as Jesudas, is a highly regarded performer in Indian classical Music. Yesudas is known for performing Indian classical Music and devotional and popular Music. He has sung in almost all Indian languages. However, Assamese and Kashmiri are not among them.
K. J. Yesudas was born to Augustine Joseph and Alicekutty in Fort Kochi, Kerala. His father was his first and most important teacher, a famous stage performer, and a musician in the Malayalam classical tradition. After some time, he enrolled in the Music Academy of Thrippunithura and began his studies there. After studying under Sri Vechur Hari Hara Subramania Iyer for a short time, he went on to get more advanced instruction from Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavatar, considered a master of classical Music. In addition to being a specialist in Carnatic Music, he is also an accomplished master of Hindustani Music.
