Late in his debut year, he switched to bullpen pitching full-time and was the closer for 17 of the Yankees’ 19 seasons in the major leagues.

He went on to establish a number of records, including the MLB regular season record of 652 saves and the playoffs marks of lowest earned run average (ERA) (0.70) and most saves (42) among them.He was a thirteen-time All-Star, five-time World Series champion, three-time Delivery Man of the Year, three-time MLB saves leader, one-time World Series MVP, and one-time AL Comeback Player of the Year throughout his baseball career.
