Tousif Ali’s father was a farmer who was also a fast bowler in his youth. Shami has three brothers and a niece, all of whom aspired to be fast bowlers. Tousif noticed Shami’s bowling ability in 2005 and took him to Badruddin Siddique, a cricket coach in Moradabad, 22 kilometers from their village.
He is a seam bowler with a right-arm fast-medium spin. Shami plays domestic cricket for Bengal. Shami is from the village of Sahaspur in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh. Tousif Ali’s father was also a cricketer, but he had to leave his aspirations due to a family crisis. Shami has three brothers and a niece, all of whom aspired to be fast bowlers.
Shami’s wife filed a First Information Report (FIR) against him and his relatives on March 9, 2018, alleging domestic abuse and adultery. Shami was also charged with attempted murder, robbery, and adultery, all of which his wife, Hasin Jahan, alleged. Hasin also alleged that the bowler was interested in match fixing.
As a result of the charges, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suspended Shami from their list of national contracts. Shami’s central contract was cleared by the BCCI on March 22, 2018, after the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) cleared him of corruption allegations.
On September 2, 2019, the Alipore Court released an arrest warrant for Mohammed Shami in connection with his wife Hasin Jahan’s domestic abuse and physical harassment charges. He had 15 days from the day the warrant was given to surrender. On September 10, 2019, a district court stayed the arrest warrant because the court that granted it refused to issue a summons to appear in court after filing the charge sheet, and that an arrest warrant can only be issued if the suspect fails to appear in court after being presented with a summons.
Shami did not make the Uttar Pradesh Under-19 side, so Badruddin sent him to Kolkata later that year. Shami began his career with the Dalhousie Athletic Club. When playing for this club, Debabrata Das, a former assistant secretary of the Cricket Association of Bengal, was impressed with Shami’s bowling and recruited him into his team, Town Club, on a Rs 75,000 contract.
Shami, who had no place to stay in Kolkata, was taken to Das’s home. Shami bowled well for Town Club but was unable to make the Bengal Under-22 side. Das approached one of the selectors, Samarban Banerjee, and requested that he keep an eye on Shami’s bowling. His bowling inspired Banerjee, who appointed him to the Bengal Under-22 squad.
Shami made his first-class debut in 2010, taking three wickets against Assam. He was picked for the West Indies-bound India A squad in 2012 as a result of his solid success in the domestic season.
