Mumbai: Highest tide of monsoon today, along with heavy rain

MUMBAI: The highest high tide this monsoon will be on Saturday — of 4.9 metres at 1.44pm —exactly during a period for which heavy has been forecast.

On Friday, the heavy tide was of 4.87 metres at 12.59 pm, which saw the sea spew garbage, especially along Marine Drive. BMC and contract workers were cleaning the promenade till late evening. High tides above 4.5 metres will on all days till Monday.

Disaster management agencies have been kept on alert for all the days as flooding is feared: during high tide, BMC closes floodgates to prevent ingress of seawater. As a result, if it rains during that time, rainwater finds no outlet.
