Today I will tell you about HOW TO CONTACT NAVEEN PATNAIK.
Naveen Patnaik is an Indian politician and writer born October 16, 1946. He has been serving as Odisha’s current and 14th Chief Minister since 2000 and has represented the Hinjili Assembly seat since then. Since 1997, he has also served as the very first president of the Biju Janata Dal. As of 2023, he holds the record for the longest tenure as chief minister of Odisha, making him also one of the chief ministers with the longest tenure of any Indian state.
He has been in office for over two decades. He is just the third Indian chief minister, following in the footsteps of Pawan Chamling and Jyoti Basu, to win five consecutive terms as the Chief Minister of an Indian state. In addition, he served as the Minister of Steel and Mines for the Union of India from 1998 to 2000, and he was a representative for the Aska constituency in the Lok Sabha from 1997 to 2000.
Patnaik is a writer who spent most of his youth away from politics and Odisha. However, after his father, Biju Patnaik, passed away in 1997, Patnaik entered politics, and a year later, he founded the Biju Janata Dal, named after Biju Patnaik. The Biju Janata Dal went on to win the state election with the BJP as its alliance and formed the government in which Patnaik became Chief Minister.
His pleasant demeanor, “Stand against corruption,” and “Pro-poor policies” have led to a massive support base in Odisha, resulting in his being elected into power in Odisha for the past five consecutive terms. Along the same lines as his father, he successfully gained control of the bureaucracy and transformed it into a tool for the expansion of the state.
People in the state have a favorable impression of him due to his simple personal living and his lack of attachment to worldly belongings. Additionally, he was a founder member of the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage when it was established. Gita Mehta, his older sister, is a well-known author. He was elected as a member of the 11th Lok Sabha in the by-election held in Odisha, India, from the Aska Parliamentary Constituency after the passing of his father, Biju Patnaik, who was the head of the Janata Dal.
He served on the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Steel and Mines, the Standing Committee on Commerce, and the Library Committee of Parliament during his time in government service. 1997 the Janata Dal broke apart, and Naveen Patnaik launched the Biju Janata Dal. This party, when allied with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, was successful, and A. B. Vajpayee appointed Patnaik to the Union Minister for Mines position in his cabinet.
Patnaik resigned from his position in the Union cabinet and was subsequently sworn in as the Chief Minister of Odisha after the BJD’s victory in the majority of seats in the Odisha Assembly elections in the year 2000. This victory was achieved in coalition with the BJP. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), headed by the BJP, was defeated in the federal elections in 2004. Still, the alliance that Naveen Patnaik led to victory in the state legislative elections, and he retained his position as Chief Minister.
The tension between the governing partners was becoming increasingly apparent during this time. This was particularly true following the assassination of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati in the Kandhamal district of Odisha in 2007–2008 and also after the active involvement of Bajrang Dal in the riots that shook the Kandhamal area. Both of these events occurred in Kandhamal. In the months leading up to the 2009 elections for the Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly of Odisha, the BJD severed its links with the BJP and walked away from the NDA. It then joined the emerging Third Front, mainly composed of the Left Front and a few regional parties. These elections took place in 2009.
After harshly criticizing the BJP’s role in the anti-Christian violence that occurred in Kandhamal in 2007, he did it. The BJD achieved a landslide victory in the elections for the Vidhan Sabha (State Assembly) and the Lok Sabha in 2009, gaining 14 of the 21 Lok Sabha seats and 103 of the 147 assembly seats. On May 21, 2009, the BJD was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Odisha for the third term in a row.
Both the national elections in India in 2014 and the elections for the Legislative Assembly of Odisha in 2014 were won by Patnaik with a significant margin of victory. Patnaik’s Biju Janata Dal won 20 of Odisha’s 21 seats in the Lok Sabha and 117 of Odisha’s 147 seats in the state’s legislature, the Vidhan Sabha. In the 2019 Indian general elections, the Biju Janata Dal, led by Naveen Patnaik and riding a strong BJP wave throughout the nation, won as many as 112 seats out of 146 (polls for one were delayed), including the Legislative Assembly of Odisha, and 12 out of 21 seats in the Lok Sabha.
Patnaik spent most of his formative years outside of Odisha, which is one of the reasons he struggles to write and talk properly in the Odia language. Because he is the only chief minister in India who is not proficient in the language of his state’s native population, he has been the target of heavy criticism from those who oppose him in office.
At present, Patnaik has a sufficient working understanding of Odia, and he holds a remarkable command of Hindi, French, Punjabi, and English. In addition, he has a working knowledge of French. His remarks in Odia are written in Roman script, and he delivers them during rallies. What started as a rumor campaign about the “extraordinary influence” exerted by an IAS official in the administration of Odisha has now become public knowledge in the state, and both the BJP and Congress are on the same side of the argument.
Their objective was V K Pandian, who had served as private secretary to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for a long time. On Tuesday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik renewed the call to eliminate the 18 percent GST now placed on kendu leaf, the primary source of income for a significant portion of the population. Nirmala Sitharaman, the Union Finance Minister and chairwoman of the GST council received a letter from the state’s chief minister stating that the high rate of GST imposed on kendu leaves was hurting the trade of kendu leaves.
According to him, this, in turn, affects the lives of those who prick kendu leaves, bind books, and undertake seasonal jobs. Naveen also brought up the fact that this was hurting the execution of social security and welfare programs for them, and he highlighted this. He said that despite being a relatively small forest product, the kendu leaf served as the primary source of income for over eight lakh pluckers, binders, and seasonal employees in Odisha. Most of these workers were tribal women, among the most impoverished members of society.
He said that the members of the tribe had the legal right to gather the leaves as part of their rights as stated by the Scheduled Tribes and Other Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006 and that they also have the legal right to purchase and sell the items in question. In addition, the chief minister strongly recommended to the finance minister of the union that the 18% GST be removed from the kendu leaf.
On Wednesday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik laid the foundation for the enormous Ekamra Prakalpa project. Ekamra Prakalpa is an acronym for Ekamra Kshetra Amenities and Monuments Revival Action Plan. The historical legacy and archaeological importance of the Ekamra Kshetra will be restored as part of this project. It is anticipated that the total cost would be 280 crores to put into action.
Following his participation in the the’shilanyas’ and ‘yagna’ rituals, the Chief Minister placed the project’s foundation stone while recognizing 14 individuals whose property was donated to the endeavor. In 2019, as part of Ekamra Prakalpa, the state government will begin developing 80 acres of land around the Lingaraj temple. This process will include the construction of temples, holy tanks, and other water bodies in the surrounding region.
According to official sources, the project would be built to comfort pilgrims’ specific pathways, automobile traffic lanes, and a parking system next to the information and control center. A mixed traffic lane with a width of 12–18 meters will be built beside covered walkways with a width of 4–10 meters to guarantee the smooth flow of pedestrian traffic. This will enhance the movement of vehicles.
To reduce the amount of traffic in and around Ekamra Kshetra, the parking facilities will be moved to the building’s outskirts. A dedicated pedestrian walkway will be developed around Bindusagar Lakeit easier for people to go to the proper places and Ekamra Van. In addition, an information and control center that will cater to emergency services will be created across an area that is 1,600 square meters in size.
The Odisha Bridge Construction Corporation (OBCC) is responsible for seeing the project through to completion. The bids have been counted, and the beginning of the construction work has been set for very soon. The photograph of Damodar Besha, which depicts Lord Lingaraj, was handed to the CM by representatives of the Brahmana Nijog, Badu Nijog, and Samartha Nijog. Several ministers and the 5T secretaries were there, including Prafulla Mallik, Ashok Chandra Panda, and VK Pandian.
At the BMC market complex, activities like sky projections, light, and sound performances, and bhajan sandhya are now part of the three-day ‘bhumi puja’ celebration that began on Monday. In addition, an exhibition showcases project models and information displays on upcoming amenities that will be located inside Ekamra Kshetra.
