Owen Jones was an English designer, architect, and writer. He was born in London on February 15, 1809, and passed away on April 19, 1874. Jones is best known for his definitive work, The Grammar of Ornament (1856), which treated Eastern and Western design motifs. This work presented a systematic pictorial collection emphasizing both the use of color and the application of logical principles to the design of everyday objects. Jones died on April 19, 1874.

Jones received his education at the Royal Academy before embarking on a journey across Spain and the Near East between 1833 and 1834. He brought attention to Islamic design in his book Plans, Elevations, Sections and Details of the Alhambra (1842–45), which treated the famed palace at Granada as an exceptional example of Moorish architecture. He did this by considering the Alhambra as a section. In addition to his work as an interior designer and book artist, Jones is credited with being a pioneer in the use of prefabricated metal structures in tropical environments.

He was given the position of supervisor of works for the Great Exhibition of 1851, which was held in England and was housed in the recently erected Crystal Palace. The Crystal Palace was an innovative metal and glass tower created using prefabricated elements. Since moving from The Independent to The Guardian in March 2014, Jones has written a weekly column for The Guardian. His writing has been published in various periodicals, including the New Statesman, the Sunday Mirror, Le Monde diplomatique, and others with more limited readerships.

He approaches writing from a more left-wing point of view. In his debut book, “Chavs: The Demonization of the Working Class,” which was released in 2011, Jones dissected societal caricatures of the British working class as obnoxious and anti-social “chavs.” The book was placed on the long list for consideration for the Guardian First Book Award, and it was chosen by Dwight Garner, a reviewer for The New York Times, as one of his top 10 non-fiction books published in 2011.

Since his work brought attention to concerns that were based on social class, Jones was recognized as one of the top 50 Britons of 2011 by the Independent on Sunday. Jones and Hugo Rifkind, a journalist with The Times, were presented with the Journalist of the Year award at the Stonewall Awards in November 2012.In September 2014, Jones’s second book, The Establishment: And How They Get Away With It, was released to the public.

According to a study published by the Daily Telegraph in 2013, Jones was ranked seventh on the most prominent left-wingers in Britain list. Jones gave one-half of the £3,000 prize money he received in February 2013 for being named the Young Writer of the Year at the Political Book Award. This was done to help the election campaign of Lisa Forbes, a Labour parliamentary candidate. The other half was given to the organization Disabled People Against Cuts.

Jones said in an interview with The Student Journals that some people have accused him of using politics to enhance his profile and that he risks being viewed as a “lefty rent-a-gob.” Both of these accusations were made about Jones being accused of using politics solely to promote his own reputation: Jones, September 2013 appearance at Policy Exchange. Jones gave a speech at a press conference on March 26, 2013, to start the People’s Assembly Against Austerity. Jones also spoke at regional public meetings leading up to a national gathering on June 22, 2013, at Central Hall Westminster.

The lecture, Totally Shameless: How TV Portrays the Working Class, was given by him in November 2013 as part of the Huw Wheldon Memorial Lecture series hosted by the Royal Television Society. In 2013, Jones lauded Hugo Chavez for managing the Venezuelan economy and argued against portrayals of Venezuela as a dictatorship. He said that Venezuela is not a one-party state. In 2014, he reiterated his conviction that democracy should prevail in Venezuela. Jones came under fire for backing the Venezuelan administration as the country’s economic problems and political instability worsened.

Jones launched his weekly online series in December 2020 under The Owen Jones Show. On the show, he interviews guests from different political perspectives. His YouTube channel receives weekly updates with brand-new episodes on Sundays. The following month, he also began publishing The Owen Jones Podcast, which included interviews with people such as Stewart Lee, Noam Chomsky, Michael Sheen, and Chelsea Manning. In August 2019, Jones and his companions were assaulted while walking outside a bar in London.

In January 2020, one of the three individuals who assaulted Jones was found guilty of aggravated assault. The judge who presided over the case concluded that Jones, who is homosexual, was targeted for his LGBT identity and left-wing opinions. The other two individuals who committed the attack were found guilty of affray. Actions have repercussions. Since a long time ago, the political class of Britain has decided to appease prejudice towards migrants and refugees or to feed the fires of bigotry purposefully.

This is a collaborative effort with right-leaning media outlets, who have been working on depicting some of the neediest individuals in the world as a marauding mob, as unworthy leeches on resources, and as incompatible with British culture. It has gained rich political dividends: justifiable public anger over a lack of cheap housing and stable job, decreasing living standards, and austerity has been aimed, brutally, towards the caricatured foreigner. This has resulted in an increase in anti-foreigner sentiment.

To accomplish this goal, it has been essential to deny migrants and refugees their humanity. After all, the vast majority of human beings will not stand idly by and watch while damage is inflicted upon those seen as “people just like us.”This leads us to the migrant processing center in Manston, located in the county of Kent, and the petrol bombs that were thrown at a Dover Border Force immigration center on Sunday. Even if it were just cats and dogs being housed at Manston, most people would find the circumstances there unacceptable.

Approximately 4,000 individuals requesting refuge are sleeping on blankets on the floor, much more than twice the stated limit capacity. It is designed to be a holding facility for a limited period. During this time, screenings are carried out on the individuals being held there before their transfer to accommodation or incarceration centers. However, these human people are being held in what amounts to a de facto jail for a period of up to four weeks.

It should now be abundantly evident to everyone, with the possible exception of those afflicted with extreme political ill faith, that this pantomime rightwinger is farcically unsuited to occupy one of the main offices of state. We now have evidence that she violated the ministerial code of conduct by sending official papers to her email address on six occasions.

People in the civil service have told me they would be fired for such atrocious behavior, yet our top politicians are held to a different standard. Rishi Sunak put her in that position for two reasons: first, because her endorsement was a factor in preventing Boris Johnson from running for party leader again, and second because a government that is intent on continuing unpopular austerity measures will seek to deflect public anger by pressing a big red button that is labeled “culture war.”

We know certain things for sure, even though the details surrounding the petrol bomb that was detonated in Dover have not yet been discovered. Politicians, media, and broadcasters have been working together to ratchet up public antipathy against desperate individuals trying to reach our shores as they escape to safety here in the United States.
