Robert Redford, full name Charles Robert Redford, Jr. is an American film actor and director best known for his boyish good looks, diverse screen personas. Following years of wandering and studying art in both Europe and the United States, Redford enrolled in the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and made his Broadway debut in the play Tall Story shortly thereafter (1959).

After appearing in various early 1960s television dramas, including Alfred Hitchcock Presents, The Twilight Zone, and Route 66, he achieved his greatest success with the lead role in Neil Simon’s Broadway musical Barefoot in the Park (1963).
