Sam Roland Heughan is a Scottish actor, producer, author, and entrepreneur who was born on April 30, 1980. He is most known for his portrayal as Jamie Fraser in the Starz historical drama series Outlander (2014–present), for which he garnered nominations for the Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Actor in a Drama Series and the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Cable Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actor.

Heughan has also appeared in films such as The Spy Who Dumped Me (2018), a spy comedy, and Bloodshot, a superhero action picture (2020). He was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award for Most Promising Performer for his performance in Outlying Islands at the Royal Court Theatre Upstairs, among his many productions. Heughan moved to adjacent New Galloway at the age of five, where he attended Kells Primary School. He lived in renovated stables on the grounds of Kenmure Castle during this time. In 2009, Heughan landed a recurring role in the BBC soap serial Doctors as Scott Nielson, Nurse Cherry Malone’s boyfriend and a hidden drug dealer. For his twenty-one episode run on the show, he was nominated for a British Soap Award in the category Villain of the Year. The next year, Heughan starred as the titular character in the direct-to-video film Young Alexander the Great, which was shot in Egypt and focused on the life of Alexander the Great as a youngster.
