Scotty Kilmer Biography:
Scotty Kilmer was born in Niagara Falls, New York on October 2, 1953. At the age of 14, he learned to be a mechanic from his grandfather, Elmer Kilmer. For his undergraduate studies, he attended York University. He later received a degree in Anthropology from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. He was working on his Ph.D. at the time, but leave to become a mechanic in defiance of the tenure system. On the advice of his wife, Kilmer wrote Everyone’s Guide to Buy a Used Car and Car Maintenance, which was first published in 1994. When it was released, Kilmer was on the front page of the Houston Chronicle, which drew the attention of local CBS affiliate KHOU.
In 1979, Kilmer married Leslie Kilmer (née Thornberg). Riley and Wyeth are their two sons. From 1980 to 2020, he lived in Houston’s Rosemont Heights neighborhood. He relocated to Clarksville, Tennessee in October 2020 to be nearer to his younger son and grandchildren.

Career:
Kilmer had a television show on KHOU called Crank it Up with Scotty before YouTube. In this series, he demonstrated how to diagnose small automotive mechanical problems, shared his thoughts on vehicle engineering, and propose suggestions for minor issues. Crank It Up won a Regional Emmy Award for “Outstanding Interactivity” in 2004. His YouTube channel is similar, in that he answers questions about car problems and the automotive industry and offers instructions.
