Sinach’s real name is Osinachi Kalu Okoro Egbu, is a Nigerian musician, songwriter, and senior worship leader at Loveworld.  She is the first singer-songwriter to spend 12 weeks at the top of the Billboard Christian Songwriter chart. At the 51st GMA Dove Awards, her song Way Maker earned three nominations and won Song of the Year, making her the first Nigerian to do so. “Way Maker,” “I Know Who I Am,” “Great Are You Lord,” “Rejoice,” “He Did It Again,” “Precious Jesus,” “The Name of Jesus,” “This Is My Season,” “Awesome God,” “For This,” “I Stand Amazed,” “Simply Devoted,” and “Jesus is Alive” are among her gospel hit songs.

After its release in 2015, Sinach’s Way Maker has received numerous accolades and awards. Way Maker’s visuals are currently the second most popular Nigerian music video on YouTube.  After Davido’s “Fall” and Yemi Alade’s “Johnny,” it became the third Nigerian video to reach 100 million views on YouTube in March 2019.  Over 60 Christian artists, including Michael W. Smith, Darlene Zschech, Leeland, Bethel Music, and Mandisa, have covered “Way Maker” in a variety of languages. Way Maker was the go-to music in the first few weeks of the Coronavirus pandemic and lockout in 2020, with many viral videos of massive crowds singing the song in hospitals and parks.  After spending several months on the Christian Copyright Licensing International top 100 list in 2020, it climbed to No. 1 in June and stayed there until December, making it the most played song in churches throughout the United States for the year.

During her visit to Israel in December 2017, Sinach was presented with a commemorative certificate from the Bethlehem Hall of Faith. In September 2019, Sinach made history as the first African gospel artist to headline a concert in India, drawing crowds of tens of thousands.

She became the first African artist to reach the top of the Billboard Christian Songwriters chart in May 2020.Sinach is the second daughter of seven children from Ebonyi State in Eastern Nigeria.

Sinach began singing for friends and family as a hobby in 1989, while serving as a staff member and choir member at Christ Embassy, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome’s Church.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in physics from the University of Port Harcourt in Rivers State, Nigeria.  aPastor Chris Oyakhilome advised her against relocating from Nigeria after completing her university education.

Sinach married Joseph Egbu in her hometown church, Christ Embassy, in 2014. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome announced the birth of Sinach’s first child, five years after their marriage, at the LIMA Awards on November 17, 2019.

Sinach claimed that as a child, she had fantasies of singing in front of large audiences, but that she didn’t consciously pursue anything musically as a profession apart from joining the choir and serving as an administrative staff member in the Church. Until releasing her first album, Chapter One, in 2008, Sinach had written a number of songs. In 2008, her song ‘This Is Your Season’ won Song of the Year.

“I chose that from my name Osinachi because it is easy to pronounce and catchy,” she said of how she got her stage name Sinach.

Sinach received the LIMA Songwriter of the Decade Award for the first time in 2016, honouring her contribution to gospel music over the previous decade. Her songs were being performed in a variety of countries and were being translated into a variety of languages all over the world.  She was awarded the African Achievers’ Award for Global Excellence in the same year.  In the same year, she was named one of the Top 100 Influential Christians in Nigeria by YNaija alongside Chris Oyakhilome and Enoch Adeboye, and she won the Western Africa Artist of the Year by Groove Awards in Kenya for the second time in a row.

Sinach has published over 200 songs and received several awards as a songwriter. In 2008, her song ‘This Is Your Season’ won Song of the Year. ‘I Know Who I Am’ is one of her most famous songs.

Sinach has headlined concerts in over 50 countries, including Kenya, Dominica, South Africa, the United States, Canada, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Grenada, Uganda, Barbados, the British Virgin Islands, Zambia, Saint Maarten, the United Kingdom, and India.
