Sunny Deol Biography:
Sunny was born as Ajay Singh Deol on October 19, 1956, in Sahnewal, Punjab. He is the first son of legendary actor Dharmendra and Prakash Kaur, and he is of Punjabi Jatt Sikh descent. Sunny has a younger brother, Bobby Deol, who is also a well-known Bollywood actor, and two sisters, Vijayta and Ajeeta, who live in California, USA.
Sunny Deol’s stepmother, superstar actress Hema Malini, gave him two half-sisters, Ahana Deol and Esha Deol.
Sunny is said to have had affairs with actresses Amrita Singh, Raveena Tandon, and Dimple Kapadia while he was in the spotlight. Sunny has always kept his personal life out of the spotlight. His contentious love life has piqued everyone’s interest. He married at a young age, and his wife, Pooja Deol, has never been in the spotlight since.
Sunny and Pooja have been married for 34 years and have two sons named Rajvir and Karan.
Despite the fact that he was married when he entered the glamour world, he continued to have romantic relationships with many of his co-stars. The list starts with Amrita Singh, Saif Ali Khan’s ex-wife. They met on the set of their debut film, Betaab. The fling, however, did not last long as Amrita quickly moved on after learning of his marriage.
Sunny’s most committed relationship had been with Dimple Kapadia. According to reports, the two even eloped and married. Sunny is also said to have given Dimple the status of a legitimate wife. Despite their 11-year relationship, Dimple later married yesteryear superstar Rajesh Khanna.
Sunny started to associate with Raveena Tandon, the glamour queen, after Dimple. Raveena was still reeling from her breakup with Akshay Kumar. Their romance began on the sets of Ziddi, where the two met. Raveena found comfort in Sunny’s company.
Sunny is best known for his renowned acting abilities and has given us many blockbuster films such as Gadar-Ek Prem Katha, Damini, and many great dialogues such as “Yeh dhai kilo ka haath jab kisi par padta hai naa, to aadmi uthta Nhi uth Janta hai.” Sunny received widespread acclaim and adoration for his portrayal of an amateur boxer in the critically and commercially successful Ghayal (1990). Sunny Deol graduated from Sacred Heart Boys High School in Maharashtra. Sunny was a good student in school who was always interested in sports. He then attended Ramniranjan Anandilal Podar College of Commerce and Economics in Mumbai, where he earned his bachelor’s degree. Following graduation, he enrolled in the acting program at the Old World Theatre in Birmingham, England. The same project went on to win seven Filmfare Awards, including Best Actor for Deol and the National Film Award.
Sunny made his film debut in 1983 with Betaab, for which he was selected for a Filmfare Award for Best Actor, and the rest is history. Sunny has appeared in over 100 films throughout his career.
Sunny was only offered a cameo role in the film Damini, but after seeing his incredible acting, he was offered one of the main cast roles and became a central character in the film. His dialogue “Tarikh pe Tarikh” was a huge hit with the audience, and the film was a commercial smash.
During the filming of Darr, he had some disagreements with the director Yash Chopra and Shahrukh Khan, and he became so enraged that he put his hands in his pockets and began punching, causing his pants to be ripped off.
Sunny decided to direct after his film London was shelved in the middle of production. Gurinder Singh Chadda, a London-based woman director, directed London. He made his directorial debut with Dillagi, and the idea for the film came to him when he saw Bobby coming home drunk late at night.
He was not the first choice for Ghatak: Lethal, but after his previous film, Ghayal, became a smash hit, he was immediately cast in Ghatak.
He made a breakthrough performance in the superhit Gadar: Ek Prem Katha at the beginning of the twenty-first century, adding a feather to his career cap. His film became so popular in Punjab that theaters would start showing it at 6 a.m.
In 2013, he did a voice-over for Vin Diesel’s character in the Hindi-dubbed version of the American film Riddick.
In Ghayal Once Again, he donned a bald look for the first time in his career. It was also his return to directing after a 16-year long break.
In April 2019, he joined the BJP and contested for the Gurdaspur constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. He won the election by a vote count of 82 thousand.
After the huge success of their film Darr, Sunny Deol had disagreements with Yash Raj Films and Shahrukh Khan, believing that his role was trimmed and Shah Rukh took all the limelight. Sunny never worked again with YRF or Sah Rukh Khan.
