Xu Minghao is more commonly known as The8. He is a South Korean-based Chinese singer, songwriter, and dancer. He is a member of the South Korean boy band Seventeen as well as its subunit “Performance Unit.” He made his official solo debut in 2019. He was one of two dance mentors (along with Jolin Tsai) in the Chinese survival show Youth With You in 2019.
The8 Biography:
On November 7, 1997, The8 was born in Anshan, Liaoning, China. He studied at the Beijing Contemporary Music Academy. His birth sign is Scorpio.
Career:
2008–2014: Pre-debut
The8 made an appearance on the Chinese program CCTV Variety Show in 2008, and he also made an appearance on the Chinese program Day Day Up in 2010. He competed in the 6th Shanghai World Dance Competition in 2012, which took place from April 27 to April 30. He finished in the top eight.
In late 2014, he made his first appearance on Seventeen TV.
2015–present: Debut and solo activities
The8 made its debut with the South Korean boy band Seventeen in 2015. On May 29, their first EP, 17 Carat, was released digitally.
After making his television debut with Seventeen, The8 landed a role in Real Class – Elementary School in 2017.
Pledis Entertainment declared on December 12, 2017, that The8 would be halting his promotional activities due to a waist injury. He did not return to promotions until the release of the revised album “Directors Cut.”
The8, along with bandmate Wen Junhui, appeared on the Chinese reality TV show Chao Yin Zhan Ji in 2018. In 2019, he co-hosted the Chinese survival show Youth With You as one of two dance coaches (along with Jolin Tsai) (season 1).
On June 9, 2019, The8 made his solo debut with the single “Dreams Come True.” The single’s choreography video was released on Seventeen’s official YouTube channel.
The8 declared the release of their second single, “Falling Down,” on May 4, 2020. It will be available on May 8, 2020.
The8 revealed the release of his third single “Side by Side” on April 8, 2021. It was released on April 13, 2021. (There is a Korean and Chinese Version).
The8, along with his bandmate Wen Junhui, released a single titled “lit. Missed Call from Mom” on May 4, 2021. All copyright proceeds will be donated to children in China who have been abandoned. The song is part of the Dandelion Philanthropy Music Project, which benefits the Chinese Children’s Charity Association.
Awards and Nominations:
On October 28, 2020, The8 (all seventeen members were awarded) received the ‘Prime Minister’s Commendation’ from South Korea’s Prime Minister for his contribution to the growth of contemporary pop culture and arts in South Korea.
