Marco Rubio Contact Address

Marco Rubio, full name Marco Antonio Rubio, is an American politician who was elected to the United States Senate as a Republican in 2010 and began his term representing Florida the following year. In the 2016 presidential election in the United States, he ran for his party’s nomination.

Rubio’s parents immigrated to the United States from Cuba in 1956, during the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista. His family lived in Miami for a while before relocating to Las Vegas, where his father worked as a bartender and his mother as a hotel housekeeper. Marco, who was raised Roman Catholic, was baptised as a Mormon while in Nevada, but returned to the Catholic Church several years later. The Rubios returned to Florida in 1985. Marco met his future wife, Jeanette Dousdebes, when he was a teenager. In 1998, the couple married and had four children.

Rubio studied law at the University of Miami after graduating from the University of Florida in 1993. He worked for Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, a Republican who was the first Hispanic woman elected to the United States House of Representatives, during that time. Following his graduation from law school in 1996, he served on the West Miami City Commission for a year before being elected to the Florida House of Representatives in a special election in 1999. He was the majority leader (2003–06) and speaker (2006–08) of the House of Representatives from 2000 to 2008.

Rubio announced his candidacy for the United States Senate seat left vacant by Mel Martinez’s resignation in 2009. He was a distant second to incumbent Republican governor Charlie Crist for much of his campaign, until Crist broke with the Republican Party and declared himself an independent. Rubio received the formal support of his party as a result, and he easily won the 2010 general election in a three-way race. Rubio took a generally conservative stance after taking office in 2011, and he was regarded as a leader of the Tea Party movement. He opposed gun control, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), same-sex marriage, climate-change restrictions, and other Democratic Party initiatives, as did the majority of Republicans. He did, however, defy many in his party by assisting in the drafting of immigration legislation (2013) that provided a path to citizenship for those who were illegally present in the United States and met certain criteria. The effort, on the other hand, was a flop. He typically advocated for interventionist foreign policy and was opposed to efforts to normalise relations with Cuba.

Rubio announced his candidacy for President of the United States in the 2016 presidential election in April 2015. His campaign platform emphasised a balanced budget, repeal of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), tax reforms, and increased border security. Rubio emerged as the Republican establishment’s preferred candidate after the primary election season began in February 2016. However, he had only won one state by the following month, and he was trailing Donald Trump and Ted Cruz in terms of delegates. Rubio halted his campaign after losing the Florida primary in mid-March.

Rubio’s memoir An American Son (2012) and a policy book, American Dreams: Restoring Economic Opportunity for Everyone, were both published in 2012. (2015).
