Uddhav Thackeray

Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray is a politician from India who was born on July 27, 1960. He is now serving as the 19th Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 2019 to 2022. Additionally, he was the Leader of the House in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from 2019 to 2022. In the year 2020, he has been a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council. Since 2019, he has served as the president of the Maha Vikas Aghadi, and since 2022, he has been the president of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray).

In addition, he served as the head (pramukh) of Shiv Sena from 2013 to 2022, as well as the working President of Saamana from 2003 until 2013, and as the editor-in-chief of Saamana during the years 2006 until 2019. In the year 2002, Thackeray began his career in politics by serving as the campaign in charge of Shiv Sena during the elections for the Brihan Mumbai Municipal Corporation.

The party showed strong performance in these elections. The Shiv Sena promoted him to the position of working president in the year 2003. Before becoming the head Minister of Maharashtra in 2019, Uddhav resigned from his position as head editor of the Shiv Sena-published daily Marathi-language newspaper Saamana, which he had held since 2006. Saamana is the party’s mouthpiece.

Following his cousin Raj Thackeray’s departure from the Shiv Sena in 2006 to establish his party, which he called Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, the Shiv Sena had a split. Following the passing of his father, Bal Thackeray, in 2012, he took charge of the party and successfully ran for president of the Shiv Sena in 2013. In 2014, the Shiv Sena joined the National Democratic Alliance government in Maharashtra under his leadership.

In 2019, Shiv Sena parted up with NDA and joined UPA. To form the government in Maharashtra, it established a sub-aligned coalition known as the Maha Vikas Aghadi, with Uddhav Thackeray serving as the minister in charge. During a party meeting in 2022, Uddhav Thackeray explained his decision to leave the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and join the United Progressive Alliance (UPA). We fully backed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to make it possible for them to achieve their national goals.

The consensus was that they would establish a nationwide presence, while we would take the lead in Maharashtra. On the other hand, we were deceived, and there were efforts made to ruin us in our own house. Therefore, we needed to strike back. According to Thackeray, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been ridding itself of its friends for political reasons. “The Bharatiya Janata Party does not mean Hindutva,” he said. The assertion that Shiv Sena had squandered 25 years in association with the BJP is one that I continue to stand by.

However, on November 28, 2019, following a short political crisis, Thackeray took the oath of office as the 18th Chief Minister of Maharashtra. This came after he was chosen as the president of the newly formed post-poll alliance Maha Vikas Aghadi. Even though Thackeray had never held any constitutional job at the beginning of his political career, he eventually began to take office.

The results of a study conducted by Prashnam in 2021 revealed that Thackeray was regarded as the most popular Chief Minister in India out of all thirteen states. Almost half of all voters who participated in the survey said that they would vote for him again. Because Maharashtra is now contemplating a bold proposal to deregister cars that operate on diesel or petrol by the year 2030, Thackeray has pledged that the state would take the lead in the fight against climate change.

The year 2050, which is twenty years before India’s objective for carbon neutrality, is the year that he intends for the city of Mumbai to become a climate-resilient metropolis that is carbon-neutral. Thackeray resigned from his position as Chief Minister of Maharashtra on June 29, 2022, in the wake of a mutiny within his party and the subsequent political crisis that ensued. This resignation came in advance of a floor test that was ordered by Bhagat Singh Koshyari, who had been chosen governor by the BJP.

It was at the Supreme Court of India that Thackeray filed an appeal to the ruling, citing the pending disqualification petition of the dissident MLAs. However, the Supreme Court did not grant a stay of the floor test from taking place. Uddhav Thackeray succeeded his father, Bal Thackeray, as the head of the Shiv Sena upon the latter’s passing in the year 2012. Despite this, his leadership of the party has been called into question during the last several years.

Following the establishment of the government in Maharashtra by Eknath Shinde, he started utilizing the Shiv Sena name and emblems without Uddhav Thackeray’s participation, which resulted in a disagreement among the party’s followers about authority. Uddhav Thackeray’s section eventually failed in its attempt to retain control over the party, as the Election Commission of India acknowledged Eknath Shinde’s faction as the official Shiv Sena party. This was even though Uddhav Thackeray’s faction challenged this in court and before the commission.

Recent events have presented Uddhav Thackeray with a substantial challenge to his leadership. This threat came about when Eknath Shinde, a prominent member of the party, advocated for the dissolution of the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition and the re-establishment of an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party. Uddhav Thackeray rejected the desires of two-thirds of his party members, which led to a political crisis that ultimately culminated in his resignation as Chief Minister of Maharashtra. This was even though he had previously garnered support from those people.

In the course of a court struggle, Eknath Shinde said that he had the backing of the majority of Shiv Sena members. Furthermore, the Election Commission of India acknowledged his side as the official Shiv Sena party, which essentially granted him power over the party. In 2004, Thackeray displayed his collection of aerial photographs of several forts in Maharashtra at the Jehangir Art Gallery. Thackeray has always had a strong interest in photography and has maintained this passion throughout his life.

The national parks of Kanha, Gir, Ranthambore, and Bharatpur are among the sites where he has captured images of wildlife. He chose the title “Live and Let Live” for his first photographic show, which he held in 1999, as a result of these events. In addition, he has created two photobooks, namely Maharashtra Desh (2010) and Pahava Vitthal (2011). In all of these books, he has captured many characteristics of Maharashtra and the workers during Pandharpur Wari, respectively.

After he complained of chest trouble on July 16, 2012, Thackeray was rushed to Lilavati Hospital for emergency treatment. The angioplasty that he received was effective in removing all three of the blockages that were present in his arteries. On November 12, 2021, he went to the HN Reliance Hospital to have surgery on his cervical spine as part of his medical treatment. At Saamana and Marmik, Rashmi Thackeray, whose maiden name was Patankar, serves as the editor.

She received her Bachelor of Commerce degree from V G Vaze College in Mulund, where she also resided. Her home was in the area of Dombivli. It was via Jaywanti Thackeray, Raj Thackeray’s sister, that she got acquainted with Uddhav Thackeray. Jaywanti Thackeray served as her companion. Subsequently, in 1989, they tied the knot. It was a matter of “national pride” and belonged to the “country’s self-respect,” according to Uddhav Thackeray, the chairman of the Shiv Sena (UBT), who urged on Saturday that President Droupadi Murmu be called to undertake the consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya on January 22.

Uddhav Thackeray, the head of the Shiv Sena (UBT), is planning to organize a big town hall-style event to address and explain the ruling that Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar issued about the disqualification of Shiv Sena Members of the Legislative Assembly. A town hall-style gathering will take place on Tuesday afternoon at four o’clock in Worli’s NSCI dome. During this event, Uddhav will participate in a conversation with the public and the press, and he will clarify the inconsistencies in Narwekar’s directive.
