Nagarjuna Akkineni is an Indian film actor, producer, and director who was born on August 29, 1959.  His honors include nine Nandi State Awards, three Filmfare Awards South, and a special mention for the National Film Award.

He is also well-known for his work in biographical films. He portrayed the 15th-century musician Annamacharya in the 1997 film Annamayya, the son of the ascetic Bharadwaja in the 2002 film Agni Varsha, Major Padmapani Acharya in the 2003 war film LOC Kargil, and the 17th-century composer Kancherla Gopanna in the 2006 film Kancherla Gopanna.

Akkineni Nagarjuna made his first Bollywood outing in 1990 with the Hindi remake of Shiva. The next year, Nagarjuna portrayed Annamacharya, a 15th-century Telugu singer and poet, in the film Annamayya. This earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Actor and the Nandi Award for Best Actor for the first time. For this role, he also got a National Award. Nuvvu Vastavani, Ninne Premistha, and Azad were his later releases.

He starred in a variety of romantic comedies, including Santosham, Manmadhudu, and Shivamani. In 2003, he produced the film Satyam, which starred his nephew Sumanth. In 2011, Nagarjuna inked contracts for three consecutive films: Rajanna, Damarukam, and Shirdi Sai. His next film, Greeku Veerudu, co-starring Nayanthara, was a box office disappointment. His subsequent Bhai was a box office flop. Vikram Kumar directed the popular family drama Manam starring Nagarjuna in 2014. Soggade Chinni Nayana, in which he had a dual part, was one of his most successful films. Subsequently, he portrayed a handicap in the popular bilingual film Oopiri by Vamshi Paidipally. It received mediocre reviews from critics and proved to be a failure. Thereafter, he starred in the horror flick Raju Gari Gadhi 2, which performed poorly at the box office. In 2018, he starred in the Ram Gopal Varma-directed and -produced film Officer. It received terrible reviews from reviewers and went on to become Nagarjuna’s biggest career failure. On September 27, 2018, Devadas, directed by Sriram Aditya and starring Nagarjuna and Nani, was released. Rashmika Mandanna and Aakanksha Singh co-starred in this film, which had a middling success.
