Asaduddin Owaisi

Born on May 13, 1969, Asaduddin Salahuddin Owaisi, popularly known as Asad Owaisi, is a politician from India who now holds the position of President of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM). On four separate occasions, he has served as a Member of Parliament (MP), and he now represents the Hyderabad constituency in the Lok Sabha, which is the lower chamber of the Indian Parliament.

For several years, the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre (RISSC) has consistently included him in their list of the 500 Muslims that they consider to be the most influential in the world. After being freed from jail, he also took over as president of the party, succeeding Qasim Razvi in leadership. In 1962, his father, Sultan Salahuddin, garnered a seat in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly via the electoral process.

Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi was elected to the Indian Parliament for the first time in 1984 from the Hyderabad constituency. He continued to win elections until 2004 when he stood down in favor of Asaduddin. Asaduddin was elected to the seat. In 2008, he passed away. To complete his education, Asaduddin Owaisi attended The Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet, and St. Mary’s Junior College. After that, he attended Nizam College (Osmania University) in Hyderabad, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree.

As a fast bowler, he competed for the South Zone inter-university U-25s cricket team in the Vizzy Trophy in 1994. Subsequently, he was picked for the South Zone University squad. His occupation is that of a lawyer, and he received his education at Lincoln’s Inn of London. Akbaruddin Owaisi, his brother, is a member of the Telangana Legislative Assembly and serves as the leader of the party in that assembly. Burhanuddin Owaisi, his younger brother, is the editor of the editorial publication Etemaad.

In 1996, on December 11th, Owaisi tied the knot with Farheen Owaisi. The couple has a total of six children, which includes one boy named Sultanuddin Owaisi, who was born in the year 2010, and five girls named Khudsia Owaisi, Yasmeen Owaisi, Ameena Owaisi, Maheen Owaisi, and Atika Owaisi—all of whom are daughters. Nazima Begum is the name of his mother. Shostripuram, Mailardevpally, and Hyderabad are his places of residence.

The engagement between his oldest daughter Khudsia Owaisi and Barkat Alam Khan, the grandson of Nawab Shah Alam Khan (paternal) and Moinuddin Khan Sandozai (maternal), took place on March 24, 2018. September in the year 2020, his second daughter, Yasmeen Owaisi, tied the knot with Abid Ali Khan, the son of the surgeon Mazharuddin Ali Khan, who is also the cousin of Zahid Ali Khan, the editor of The Siasat Daily.

Ameena Owaisi, his third daughter, tied the knot with Fahad Beg on the 22nd of December in the year 2022. Fans of his have referred to him as Naqeeb-e-Millat, which translates to “Leader of the Community.”He speaks Urdu, Hindi, and English with complete fluency. He cuts his beard short and wears a long sherwani. He also wears an Islamic headgear. After his father and grandparents, Asaduddin is the third national president of the All-India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party in India. His father and grandfather were the previous presidents of the party.

AIMIM is a minority party that will speak up on behalf of the Dalit tribal people in India by bringing attention to the concerns that exist under minority provisions. During the election for the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1994, Asaduddin made his first appearance in the political arena. He trounced his closest competitor, a candidate for a breakaway group Majlis Bachao Tehreek, by a margin of forty thousand votes since he was running from the Charminar seat, which his party has been winning since 1967.

While Virasat Rasool Khan was serving as the elected representative for the constituency, he took over the role. In the election that took place in 1999, he triumphed against his closest competitor, Syed Shah Noorul Haq Quadri, who was running for the Telugu Desam Party. He won by 93 thousand votes. In the election, Owaisi received 126 thousand votes from the electorate. The election that took place in 2004 resulted in Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri succeeding him as the representative for the seat representing the constituency.

In the year 2004, Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi, Owaisi’s father, who had been serving as the representative for the Hyderabad seat in the Lok Sabha (the lower house of the Indian parliament), declined to run for reelection, claiming his ill health as the reason. The constituency is home to seventy percent Muslim residents. His closest competitor, Subhas Chanderji, received 28% of the vote, while he received 38% of the vote.

In the year 2008, the Left Front, which was comprised of Communist Parties, decided to withdraw their support for the central government of India, which was headed by the United Progressive Alliance. Manmohan Singh, the Prime Minister of India, and George W. Bush, the President of the United States, signed a nuclear pact between India and the United States. The agreement permitted India to maintain nuclear warheads, but in exchange, India was required to accept international monitoring.

The Communist parties thought that the United States would exploit India by using it as a pawn in this pact. It was necessary to have a vote of confidence in the Indian Parliament since the Left Front had decided to withdraw their support. Owaisi said that it was an effort to create a communal element to the transaction when Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati stated that Muslims in India were opposed to the deal.

During the vote of confidence, Owaisi announced that he would be supporting the Universal Progressive Alliance. He said that his primary aim was to prevent the Bharatiya Janata Party, which is a right-wing opposition party, from ascending to power and to prevent Lal Krishna Advani from becoming the Prime Minister of the nation. Zahid Ali Khan, the editor-in-chief of an Urdu newspaper called The Siasat newspaper, was a direct opponent of Owaisi in the general election that took place in India in 2009.

His opponents, the Telugu Desam Party and Telangana Rashtra Samithi, as well as the Communist Party of India and the Communist Party of India (Marxist), pledged their support for him. There was a “tough challenge” for the AIMIM party in the Hyderabad seat, according to the Hindustan Times. Owaisi, on the other hand, emerged triumphant and triumphed against Ali Khan by a margin of 110 thousand votes. When compared to the election in 2004, he succeeded in increasing the victory margin by ten thousand votes.

In recognition of his outstanding performance during the 15th session of the Indian parliament, Owaisi was presented with the Sansad Ratna Award, often known as the Gem of Parliamentarians, in October 2013. Within this time frame, he posted a total of 1080 questions to the Parliament, which is much more than the national average of 292. His attendance rate is now over 70 percent. The Milli Gazette said that he “has gained wide respect nationally among Indian Muslims for his bold speeches in Lok Sabha (the lower house of Indian parliament)” in their article.

He advocated for topics in the Parliament that were relevant to the concerns of the community of people who were members of a minority. Additionally, when he brought up the subject of waqf assets in the parliament, the minister of rural development at the time, Jairam Ramesh, said that it was a mistake on the part of his ministry to not acknowledge waqf as a major concern. Additionally, Owaisi submitted his candidacy for the Hyderabad seat in the general election that took place in 2014 in April.

The value of his mobile assets was 2.7 million rupees, which is about $42,000, while the value of his immovable assets was 30 million rupees, which is approximately $463,000.His victory over his closest challenger, Bhagvanth Rao, of the Bharatiya Janata Party, by a margin of 197 thousand votes allowed him to win the election from the seat once again. Owaisi announced that his party, AIMIM, will attempt to win the election for the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 2015. The majority of the candidates would come from the Seemanchal region of the state, which is mostly Muslim.

Voters accused him of being an agent of the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party, according to a report by News18 India. The report said that the candidates for the party would split votes. As far as he was concerned, he was not too optimistic about their prospects of victory. He also said that the Seemanchal area was undeveloped, and he placed the responsibility for this underdevelopment on the Indian National Congress party, the Bharatiya Janata Party, and the Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar.
