Gajendra Singh Shekhawat was born on 3 October 1967, in the village of Mahroli in the tehsil of Shrimadhopur in the Sikar district of Rajasthan, India. Shankar Singh Shekhawat, his father, was a senior government officer in the public health department who travelled often around the state on assignments, so Shekhawat attended many different colleges. Jai Narain Vyas University in Jodhpur awarded him a Master of Arts and a Master in Philosophy.

Shekhawat started his political career in student politics, winning more votes than any previous Akhil Bhartiya Vidhyarthi Parishad member when he was elected president of the Student Union at JNVU University in 1992. Shekhawat has been appointed National General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Kisan Morcha, the party’s farmers wing. He was also a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Rajasthan State Executive.

In 2014, he was elected to the 16th Lok Sabha with the largest ever winning margin from the Jodhpur constituency. One of his biggest accomplishments as a member of Parliament was the expansion of the Jodhpur Airport, which had been a long-standing demand for the past 18 years.

As General Secretary, he was instrumental in the formation of a second line of defence comprised of civilians living along the Rajasthan frontier. He also played a key role in widening the scope of civil defence by building 40 schools and four hostels along the Indo-Pak frontier.
