HC Verma is a professor emeritus at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur and an experimental physicist from India. Nuclear physics is his area of research.
Verma was born in Darbhanga, Bihar, on April 8, 1952. In Samastipur, his father worked as a teacher. He graduated from Patna Science College with a B. Sc. degree after graduating from high school. At the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, he received his M.Sc. and Ph.D.
Verma began teaching at Patna Science College in early 1980. He served as a lecturer and reader at the college for 15 years before resigning and enrolling at IIT Kanpur. In 1994, Verma began working as an assistant professor at IIT Kanpur. He did theoretical nuclear physics experiments here. He has 139 academic papers to his credit. On June 30, 2017, he announced his retirement.
Verma has produced more than 600 “low-cost” physics tests that teachers can use in their classrooms. In 2011, he created the National Anveshika Network of India (NANI), the Indian Association of Physics Teachers’ flagship initiative (IAPT). This program’s national coordinator is him. There are 22 Anveshikas in the country right now.
