Vicky Kaushal is an actor from India. With his debut acting role in Manav Kaul’s production of Laal Pencil, he began working on stage. Kaushal appeared in the films Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana (2012) and Bombay Velvet (2015), as well as the experimental short film Geek Out, directed by Kashyap (2013).
In the indie drama Masaan (2015), directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, Kaushal had his first main role. Masaan received positive reviews and was hailed by The New York Times as a prominent example of increasing realism in Indian film. Among other honours, his performance earned him the IIFA and Screen Awards for Best Male Debut, as well as a nomination for the Asian Film Award for Best Newcomer.
In 2019, Kaushal featured as a military commander in Uri: The Surgical Strike, an action film directed by Aditya Dhar and shot in Serbia, based on the 2016 Uri incident. He increased muscular mass, followed a ketogenic diet, and went through five months of military training and mixed martial arts sessions to prepare. During the filming of an action scenario, he hurt his arm.
In a biography directed by Shoojit Sircar, Kaushal will play the independence warrior Udham Singh, who murdered Michael O’Dwyer. Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, the film’s release has been postponed. Aside from the biography, he just wrapped filming with Manushi Chhillar on Vijay Krishna Acharya’s family comedy movie The Great Indian Family. He is currently filming on Shashank Khaitan’s comedic spy thriller Mr. Lele, in which he co-stars with Bhumi Pednekar and Kiara Advani as the titular character.
