Javed Akhtar is a poet, lyricist, and playwright from India who writes in Urdu and Hindi (Hindustani). In the late 1970s and early 1980s, when Salim Khan was one-half of the script-writing partnership billed as Salim-Javed, he produced some of his most commercially successful works. Javed was the other half. Akhtar is still well-known in the Bollywood community and is a highly sought-after lyricist. Akhtar was born in what is now the city of Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh. His father, Jan Nisar Akhtar, was a musician for Bollywood films and an Urdu poet, while his mother, vocalist Safia Akhtar, was a teacher and writer. His family tree has seven generations of authors in a row back.

His maternal uncle was the renowned Urdu poet Majaz. Many consider the writings of his grandfather, Muzter Khairabadi, to be a significant turning point in the development of Urdu poetry. Akhtar is the only child of his parents; his younger brother, Salman Akhtar, is a well-known psychotherapist. After the birth of their son, his parents relocated to Lucknow in the state of Uttar Pradesh and then to Aligarh after that. The young Javed Akhtar never got to meet his mother since she passed away when he was very young, and his father spent a lot of time traveling between Lucknow and Bombay, so the young Javed and his brother spent most of their time with their extended family.

At the age of eight, he was allowed to enroll in the sixth grade at the Colvin Taluqdars’ College, a prestigious institution in Lucknow. After living in Lucknow for some time, he settled down with his maternal aunt in Aligarh. He enrolled at the exclusive Minto Circle, one of the most prestigious Aligarh schools. The illustrious Aligarh Muslim University incorporates the school as one of its constituent institutions. Aligarh Muslim University is where he finished his matriculation requirements.

After finishing his secondary school education, Akhtar enrolled in Saifiya College in Bhopal and eventually received a Bachelor of Arts. In college, he was a fierce competitor in debate and a repeat Rotary Club Prize winner. On October 4, 1964, Akhtar landed in the city of Mumbai. In the early years of his time spent in Mumbai, he was able to compose the dialogue for a low-budget film and earn Rs. 100 for his efforts. He used to fill in for someone else as an assistant on occasion.

His father, Jan Nisar Akhtar, was equally well-known for his poetry in the Urdu language. The name is Javed was derived from the phrase “Lamba, Lamba kisi jadoo ka fascina hoga” in a poem Javed’s father wrote. Javed’s original name was Jadoo. He was given the name Javed as his legal name since it was the name that came the closest to the term Jadoo. The film director Farhan Akhtar is the son of Javed Akhtar, a film director. The father-and-son team of Javed and Farhan Akhtar has collaborated on several films, including Dil Chahta Hai, Lakhshya, and Rock On, amongst others.

Javed Akhtar is responsible for writing the screenplays for these motion pictures. Since Javed Akhtar and his former business partner Salim Khan severed their ties, they have not collaborated on any projects. Salim Khan is the father of Salman, Arbaaz, and Sohail Khan. In the past, Javed would compose his screenplays in Urdu, and his helper would translate them into Hindi. Another assistant would then transcribe an English summary of one line onto their computer.

His relationship with Salim continued up until 1980. After this, Javed authored a few screenplays on his own, but he mostly transitioned to composing songs for films, an endeavor in which he found extraordinary success. Javed Akhtar’s songs are rhythmic and catchy, contemplative of life, and full of memorable melodies. In addition to producing songs for movies, Javed has tried his hand at more severe forms of Urdu poetry. In Tarkash, a significant collection of his works has been assembled, and this compilation has also been turned into audio in his voice. Some of his poetry that wasn’t used in movies has been set to music by singers like Jagjit Singh and the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

On the fourth season of India’s most popular singing competition, “Indian Idol,” Javed Akhtar served as a judge with Anu Malik, Kailash Kher, and Sonali Bendre. Additionally, he served on the board of directors for the Asian Academy of Film and Television. Honey Irani, who wrote scripts for Hindi films, was Akhtar’s wife, and the couple had two children together: Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar, who both became film directors. After his marriage to Irani ended in divorce, Javed wed the actress Shabana Azmi, the daughter of another well-known Urdu poet Kaifi Azmi. After moving to Mumbai in the early 1960s, Akhtar started his film industry career as an assistant writer on mediocre films. In the movie “Yakeen,” Akhtar made his first attempt as a screenwriter. However, the movie was not a commercial success. However, after that, the writer worked on a project with another writer named Salim Khan.

Films such as “Seeta Aur Geeta,” “Don,” and “Andaz,” all of which were written by members of this excellent writing team, helped establish the success of the duo. But the famed duo Salim and Javed tasted the bottled wine of celebrity when their written child ‘Sholay’ gained a lot of praise from the public. In 1980, the couple went their ways, just as everything must eventually end. While all this was happening, Akhtar tied the knot with Honey Irani. The couple has two children: Zoya Akhtar, a successful filmmaker in Bollywood, and Farhan Akhtar, a successful actor, director, and singer in B-Town.

After his business collaboration with Salim ended, Javed kept writing poetry in Urdu. Also, he decided to pursue a career as a songwriter in the music industry. He was successful in his chosen career as a songwriter, but around this time, his relationship with his wife, Honey, went through a rough period. Allegations that Javed had an affair with then-starlet Shabana Azmi, whom he later married after their separation, led to the couple’s decision to end their marriage and get a divorce.

As time passed, Javed’s career flourished, and he was awarded several prizes for his significant contributions to the Bollywood community. The government of India bestowed Akhtar the distinguished title of ‘Padma Shri’ in 1999, followed by the award of ‘Padma Bhushan’ in 2007. The writer, poet, and lyricist have garnered several honors from the industry for their unparalleled body of work. The songs “Papa Kehte Hain,” “Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh,” and “Kal Ho Na Ho,” among others, are all well-known examples of Akhtar’s songwriting.

In addition, the writer and lyricist were ecstatic to get five National Awards for his contributions to movies such as “Saaz” (1997), “Border,” “Godmother” (1999), “Lagaan,” and “Refugee.” In his son Farhan’s first directorial effort, “Dil Chahta Hai,” Javed contributed his usual high performance. Subsequently, he did the same for “Lakshya” and “Rock On.” In addition, he offered his abilities to his daughter Zoya Akhtar so that she might use them in the movie “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.”

The well-known author is also actively contributing to the government’s work as a member of the “Rajya Sabha.” In the same vein, Akhtar is now serving as Adviser on the board of the Asian “Academy of Film and Television.”Wasim Akram, a former cricketer for Pakistan, will debut in the film industry with the forthcoming heist thriller Money Back Guarantee. Fawad Khan will play a significant part in the movie, while Wasim Akram will play a supporting role. Wasim Qureshi’s wife, Shaniera, will also appear in the film, directed by Faisal Qureshi.

Wasim was asked his opinion on lyricist and writer Javed Akhtar’s recent remarks on Pakistan, which the latter had made while visiting Lahore. The interview took place before the release of the film. At a meeting in Lahore earlier this year, Javed Akhtar reminded the audience that it is unreasonable to ask Indians to ignore that Pakistanis were responsible for the terrorist attacks on November 26 and 11 in Mumbai. His statements were praised in India, while many prominent people in Pakistan condemned him for making them. Javed said he was greeted like a hero when he returned to India after his travels.

Wasim Akram has said how much he longs to return to India. “A trip to India is high on our travel wish list. I lived there for around seven to eight months out of the year. I miss my family, my friends, and all of the cuisine, especially the dosa. In Pakistan, we do not have access to it… We need to get there very quickly, in the name of Allah. “I can’t wait to get back to Bombay and see all the places I’ve been neglecting over the past few years, as well as the city’s frenetic energy,” he remarked. Pakistani performers and artists are subject to economic sanctions in India, which amounts to a de facto ban on them from performing or working in India. The Legend of Maula Jatt, written and directed by Fawad, was previously denied a release in India.
