M R Kumar was appointed Chairman of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC of India) on March 14, 2019. In 1983, he joined the LIC of India as a Direct Recruit Officer. He has had the distinct honour of heading three zones of the LIC of India, namely the Southern Zone, the North Central Zone, and the Northern Zone, all of which are headquartered in Chennai, Kanpur, and Delhi, respectively, over the course of his three-and-a-half-decade career.
He was the head of two prestigious branches, namely As Sr. Divisional Manager, Ahmedabad in the Western Zone, and Ernakulum in the Southern Zone. At Kolkata and Chennai, he was both Regional Manager (Marketing) and Regional Manager (P&IR).
He oversaw the Corporation’s Personnel Department, as well as the Pension and Group Insurance verticals, as an Executive Director.
