Rangaraj Subbiah is renowned by the name Sathyaraj. He is an Indian actor, producer, director, media personality, and former politician best known for his work in Tamil cinema. Among his 200 films are works in Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.
Sathyaraj Biography:
Sathyaraj was born as Rangaraj on 3 October 1954 in Coimbatore. His father’s name is Subbiah. He is a doctor. His mother’s name is Nathambal. He has two younger sisters, Kalpana Mandradiar and Roopa Senapathy. He is a fan of M. G. Ramachandran and Rajesh Khanna. Sathyaraj attended St Mary’s Convent School in Coimbatore for primary school and Suburban High School in Ramnagar, Coimbatore for tenth grade. He attended Government Arts College in Coimbatore to pursue a Bachelor of Science in botany.
Sathyaraj’s aim was to become a film actor, but his mother was opposed and forbade him from pursuing his dream. Despite his mother’s opposition, he left Coimbatore in 1976 to work in the Tamil film industry in Kodambakkam, Chennai.
After witnessing the filming of Annakili, where he met actor Sivakumar and producer Thiruppur Manian, Sathyaraj began pestering them to help him achieve his cinematic dreams and aspirations. Sivakumar criticized his interest in acting and advised him to return home right away. Nonetheless, he stayed in Chennai. Producer Maathampatty Sivakumar helped him by sending him money on a monthly basis. He joined Komal Swamynathan’s drama troupe. Sattam En Kaiyil, Sathyaraj’s first film in a credited role as an actor, was released in 1978, and he played a henchman to the main villain, played by Thengai Srinivasan. Later in his career, he worked as the production manager for the film Kannan Oru Kaikkuzhanthai.
In addition to his managerial position, he played a minor role in the film. Saavi, his first film as the leading hero in Tamil, was a box office success in 1985. From 1978 to 1985, he appeared in approximately 75 films, the majority of which starred Sathyaraj in antagonist roles.
Sathyaraj married Maheswari in 1979. The couple is blessed with two children, daughter Divya and son Sibiraj, who is also an actor. Sathyaraj is a devout atheist.
Career:
He began his career as an antagonist and progressed to leadership roles. He achieved success as a lead actor in Vedham Pudhithu (1987), Nadigan (1990), Amaidhi Padai (1994), Periyar (2007), and Onbadhu Roobai Nottu (2007). (2007). He was also recognized for his supporting roles in Nanban (2012), Raja Rani (2013), Baahubali (2015), Baahubali 2 (2017), and Kanaa (2018). He also directed the 1995 film Villadhi Villain, in which he played three different roles.
He had a short career as a television host for the game show Home Sweet Home, on STAR Vijay in 2011. He has also been a brand ambassador for Pothys and Kumaran Jewelry Shop.
