Bookanakere Siddalingappa Yediyurappa is an Indian politician who serves as the 19th and present Chief Minister of Karnataka.

YS Yedipurappa Biography:

BS Yediyurappa was born in the village of Bookanakere, Mandya District, Karnataka, on February 27, 1943. The sign of his zodiac is Pisces. He completed his primary education at the local school of Bookanakere and his internship at the PES College in Mandya, Karnataka. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bangalore University.

After completing his college education, he began working as a first-division clerk in the Social Welfare Department of the Karnataka Government in 1965. He soon left his job and moved to Shikaripura, where he worked as a clerk in a rice mill belonging to Veerabhadra Shastri. Two years later, he was married to the daughter of Shastri. He then moved with his wife to Shivamogga, a town in Karnataka, where he opened a hardware store.

Family, Caste, and Wife of Yediyurappa:

Yedipurappa belongs to the Lingayat Community. Siddalingappa was his father and he was a farmer. Puttathayamma was his mother and he was a housewife. He has two brothers and two sisters. His mother died, when he was 4 years old. He was married to Mythra Devi in 1967. Mythra Devi died in 2004 after falling into a tank while drawing water from it. They have five children; two sons, BY Raghavendra and BY Vijyaendra, and three daughters, SY Umadevi, BY Arunadevi, and BY Padmavati. He did not remarry after the death of his wife and is a widower.

Yediyurappa Career:

Yediyurappa has been associated with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) since college days. In 1970, he was appointed Secretary of the RSS Shikaripura Division. He was jailed for 45 days in Bellary and Shimoga during the emergency period. In 1977, he was named President of Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the political arm of the RSS. In 1980, after Jana Sangh was renamed BJP, Yediyurappa was appointed president of the Shikaripura unit of BJP. He was first elected to the lower house of the Karnataka Assembly in 1983. In 1985, Yediyurappa was appointed Chairman of the Shimoga Unit. In 1988, he was appointed President of the BJP Karnataka.

In 1999, he lost the elections to the Karnataka Assembly but was nominated to the upper house of the Karnataka Assembly by the BJP. In 2006, the BJP allied with Janata Dal (Secular) and formed the Karnataka government. It was determined that HD Kumaraswamy would have been Chief Minister for 20 months, and then Yediyurappa would have been CM for the next 20 months.

After the 20 months of Kumaraswamy were over, he declined to give up his CM post. On 5 October 2007, he resigned and the BJP withheld support from the Kumaraswamy administration. On 7 November 2007, the BJP and the JD(S) decided that Yeddyurappa should become the CM, and on 12 November 2007, he was sworn in as the CM. Nevertheless, the JD(S) had a dispute with the BJP over the ministries, which resulted in Yediyurapp ‘s resignation as CM on 19 November 2007.

New elections were held in Karnataka in 2008. He contested the electoral district of Shikaripura and won. He also led the BJP to its first win in the state of South India. On 30 May 2008, he was sworn in as Chief Minister of Karnataka. On 31 July 2011, he had to resign as Chief Minister of Karnataka, as stated by Karnataka Lokayukta on illegal mining, alleging that he made money from many land deals and illegal iron ore exports. On 30 November 2012, he resigned as an MLA and also as a member of the BJP. On 9 December 2012, he launched his party named as Karnataka Janata Paksha.

In July 2019, 16 MLAs of the Government of the JDS-Congress submitted their resignation. It caused the government to lose a majority in the Assembly of Karnataka. The floor test was ordered on 23 July 2019, and after HD Kumaraswamy failed to win the floor test, the government had to back down. He was invited to form the Government by the Governor of Karnataka, Vajubhai Vala, and on 26 July 2019 BS Yedipurappa was sworn in as Chief Minister of Karnataka.
