Aishe Ghosh is a student activist and politician in the country of India. In addition to being a member of the Students’ Federation of India, she now serves as the president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union. She also ran as a candidate for the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly election in 2021. However, she was defeated by Hareram Singh. Ghosh was born on October 22nd, 1995, and spent most of his childhood in the city of Durgapur, located in the Paschim Bardhaman district of West Bengal. She is Debashish Ghosh and Sharmishta Ghosh’s oldest kid. Ghosh stands for Ghosh.

Her mother, Sharmishta Ghosh, is a homemaker. At the same time, her father, Debashish Ghosh, is an employee of Damodar Valley Corporation and has been connected with the Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU), the labor branch of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). Her younger sister, Ishika Ghosh, is a student at Shyama Prasad Mukherji College in New Delhi, where she is completing her undergraduate education at the current time.

Ghosh attended Delhi University’s Daulat Ram College, earning a bachelor’s degree in political science. He then participated at Jawaharlal Nehru University, earning a master’s in the same subject. She is enrolled in the School of International Relations at Jawaharlal Nehru University, working towards a master’s degree in philosophy. Ghosh won the election for president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union in September 2019.

As part of his responsibilities in that position, Ghosh got engaged in demonstrations that were held against fee increases, reductions in funding for libraries, shortages of available hostel beds, increases in the cost of power, and limits on the types of clothing and hours that university students were allowed to wear. In October 2019, new regulations were implemented, which resulted in the university being the central institution in India with the highest tuition fees. She thought that public colleges should not behave in the same manner as private, for-profit schools.

Ghosh has also taken part in demonstrations against the abolition of the university’s gender sensitization committee and the impunity for Atul Johri, a lecturer who is suspected of sexually harassing students. Since the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power, she has been critical of the party for what she believes to be its lack of support for educational institutions. She has accused the party of targeting the university.

Ghosh was taken to the hospital at AIIMS Delhi on January 5, 2020, after sustaining a head injury during the assault on the campus that was reportedly carried out by the Hindu nationalist group Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad carried out the incident. As a result of the assault on the university, which got significant publicity, she achieved national prominence during the burgeoning protest movement in India.

She was supported by various people, including the actress Deepika Padukone and Pinarayi Vijayan, the Chief Minister of Kerala, who went out of his way to visit her in person. The police filed charges of vandalism and assault against Aishe Ghosh about the event; however, no further arrests were made. She subsequently claimed that there was a connection between the perpetrators of the assault, the police, and the management of the JNU, all of whom intended to end the movement.

As a result of the event, she became involved in the subsequent countrywide protest movement directed against CAA and NRC. As president of the JNUSU, she has also taken the initiative to file a suit with the Delhi High Court challenging the “arbitrary” price increases and penalties that the administration of the institution has imposed. In February 2020, Ghosh was not granted permission by either of the two state-operated universities in Kolkata to speak at gatherings held on campus.

She also attempted to host a demonstration in West Burdwan, but the district government in West Bengal would not provide her permission to do so. Aishe Ghosh, president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU), was selected to run for the Jamuria assembly seat by the Communist Party of India (Marxist). She has said that she would keep Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in her heart and mind while she puts the politics she has practiced so far to the test in the coal mines of West Bengal.

Ghosh, a latecomer into politics, flourished as the union president when student politics experienced a renaissance when Left leader Kanhaiya Kumar became prominent after a sedition case. Ghosh was the first sitting JNUSU functionary to run for the assembly election and was the first to do so while still serving in that function. She said, “It is a big responsibility, but my politics will remain the same,” when she was asked what it is like to be launched into national politics from JNU.

The problems that we at JNU struggle for are an extension of the issues occurring nationwide. Whether it be reservations, communalism, our battle for better education, employment, or living situations, all these things may be considered reservations. The problems are the same across the whole of our nation. According to what Ghosh told the PTI, “I will carry these issues that I fought for in JNU to the people of West Bengal.”

Ghosh was busy preparing her documents for coming to Bengal for the election, so she apologized for being unable to accept calls while packing for a long and difficult war that would begin the day she arrived in Jamuria. The battle will begin on the day she comes in Jamuria. Ghosh completed her intermediate and upper secondary education in Durgapur and earned her diploma. She then studied political science at Daulat Ram College in New Delhi, where she received her degree.

After that, she continued her education by enrolling in the master’s program at JNU. After obtaining her master’s degree, she continued her education by enrolling in the MPhil program at the School of International Relations at JNU. She is now in the second year of her studies for the Master of Philosophy degree. Ghosh, a member of the Students Federation of India (SFI), connected with the Left, has now become one of the few incumbent JNUSU presidents to stand an election while still being a student at the institution. This election was for either the Lok Sabha or the assembly.

According to the registrar of JNU, Pramod Kumar, who spoke with ThePrint, she is permitted to do so so long as she notifies the institution and takes the necessary amount of leave. Kanhaiya Kumar was the most recent president of the JNU Students’ Union to run for public office. He ran for the seat of Begusarai in Bihar during the elections for the Lok Sabha in 2019; by then, he had already graduated from the university and finished his tenure as president of the JNU Students’ Union.

Aishe Ghosh, president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU), sprang to the forefront of national political conversation after an incident of violence on the university campus in which she was wounded. Ghosh was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries to her head and arm, but she was soon able to return to JNU to participate in a demonstration with her fellow students against the violence.

Ghosh was born and raised in West Bengal and received her education in the district of West Burdwan’s industrial town of Durgapur. She never participated in politics when she was in her home state. Still, the fact that she was raised in a household where leftist ideology was prevalent provided her with some insight into leftist politics.

Ghosh attended two different private institutions in the city to complete her intermediate and upper secondary education. Then she went on to Daulat Ram College (DRC) in New Delhi, where she earned her degree in political science. After that, she continued her education by enrolling in the master’s program at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). After obtaining her master’s degree, she continued her education by enrolling in the MPhil program at the School of International Relations at JNU. She is now in the second year of her studies for the Master of Philosophy degree.

At the time when she was an undergraduate student at Daulat Ram College, she was introduced to the world of student politics for the first time. Her father, Debasish Ghosh, is a member of the Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU), the labor branch of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He works with Damodar Valley Corporation. At DRC, Aishe became a member of the Student Federation of India (SFI), the student branch of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).

Her participation in various student political activities expanded once she started attending JNU. Before being chosen as the president of the JNU Student Union, she was elected twice as the class representative. While Aishe and her colleagues were working on the JNU campus on Tuesday, her father was busy in Durgapur advocating for the statewide strike that will take place on January 8 and was called for by national trade unions, including CITU.

Her skull is wrapped in a bandage at this point. Because the incision is so severe, most of the 15 stitches sewn onto her head on January 5 must be removed later. A sling supports her injured left hand. It seems like she is wearing a pair of black trousers, a maroon jumper, and a yellow top underneath it. A brown shawl is wrapped over her hand while a cast is done on her. However, the injuries do not seem to prevent her from continuing. She goes by the name Aishe Ghosh. She is the face of a campaign for cheap education at JNU that has been going on for more than 75 days, and she is bloodied and wounded as a result.

The image of her face, which was covered in blood and shocked the whole country on the evening of January 5, occurred after a violent crowd had rampaged through the campus while the police and the security were supposedly watching. It provoked demonstrations nationwide, including at St. Stephen’s College in Delhi, the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru, and the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay. It encouraged people to travel, and many did so from Kochi to Cuttack, Tiruppur to Jadavpur, Bilaspur to Ranchi, and Jorhat to Jaipur.

It invited Bollywood stars like Zoya Akhtar, Swara Bhaskar, Anurag Kashyap, Vishal Bhardwaj, Anubhav Sinha, and Dia Mirza to sing and sloganeer on the streets of Mumbai. Additionally, it drew Deepika Padukone to the JNU campus, where she told Ghosh, “Proud of you.”Ghosh, who is just 25 years old and serves as president of the JNU Students’ Union (JNUSU), is widely considered to be the most well-known student leader in the nation.
