Anurag Thakur is a member of India’s Lower House of Parliament and a Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs. He represents Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh. He is the son of Himachal Pradesh’s former Chief Minister, Prem Kumar Dhumal. He was first elected to the Lok Sabha as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party in a by-election in May 2008.


Anurag Thakur was born in Hamirpur on October 24, 1974. Prem Kumar Dhumal and Sheela Devi’s eldest son is him. He received his bachelor’s degree from Doaba College in Jalandhar, Punjab. Joram Rina Rijiju is his wife, and they married in 2004. She is an Assistant Professor at Dera Natung College in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, where she teaches history.

Thakur became India’s 14th Lok Sabha Member of Parliament from the Hamirpur constituency in May 2008, succeeding his father. In 2009, the 15th Lok Sabha, the 16th Lok Sabha in 2014, and the 17th Lok Sabha in 2019, he was re-elected.

Thakur was later elected president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha of India. In 2019, the Sansad Ratna Award was given to him for his excellent performance in the 16th Lok Sabha. Thakur was appointed Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs in May 2019.

He was accused of being one of the political leaders by using hate speech that included the words “traitor of the country,” to which his audience responded with “shoot the bastards,” which he repeated at a BJP rally in January 2020.

When Anurag Thakur was president of the HPCA, he played a Ranji Trophy match against Jammu & Kashmir in November 2000. In the 2000/2001 season, he represented Himachal Pradesh in one first-class cricket match, captaining the team in a match against Jammu and Kashmir. Jammu and Kashmir were victorious by four wickets.


He chose himself for the match in order to meet the BCCI’s criteria for being a state selector. Following the match, he was appointed chairman of the HPCA Ranji Trophy cricket team’s selectors.
