D K Shivakumar is an Indian politician and businessman who is the President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee at the present (KPCC). He served in H. D. Kumaraswamy’s cabinet as the state minister of irrigation.
D K Shivakumar was born on 15 May 1962, in Kanakapura, Mysore State, India. He is 58 years old. The name of his father is Kempegowda and the name of his mother is Gowramma.
Shivakumar ran as an independent candidate in the 1989 elections. Yet, at the age of 30, he became the state’s youngest minister, acting as a Minister of State under Chief Minister S Bangarappa from 1991 to 1992.
DK Shivakumar is a congress party powerhouse who is known for his dynamism. He represents the Kanakapura district in the Legislative Assembly. He, like other leaders, was accused of corruption, including illicit mining and suspected complicity in the Shanthinagar housing society scandal.
Shivakumar is one of Karnataka’s wealthiest leaders. He announced total assets of 840 crore while filing his candidacy for election in 2018, a rise of more than 600 crore from the 2013 election.
Shivakumar is credited with playing a key role in the creation of the Indian National Congress-Janata Dal (Secular) coalition government in Karnataka following the 2018 election. Previously, during the 2001 Congress crisis, he hosted Maharashtra Congress MLAs.
He supported his party leadership in bringing 42 Gujarat Congress MLAs into his Bengaluru resort just before his election to the Rajya Sabha in 2017 to prevent them from defecting to another political party. As a result, Ahmed Patel was able to win the election. He is also a close confidante of Rahul and Sonia Gandhi, the party’s founders. He was sworn in as president of the KPCC on July 2, 2020.
