Born in the United States on July 19, 1973, Subramanian Raja Krishnamoorthi is a successful businessman, politician, and attorney. He has represented Illinois’ 8th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives since 2017. The district encompasses many of Chicago’s western and northwestern suburbs, including communities such as Elk Grove Village, Schaumburg, Wood Dale, and Hoffman Estates, among others. He won the election to take over for his predecessor, Tammy Duckworth, who resigned to compete for the Senate of the United States.

In addition to being a member of the Democratic Party, Krishnamoorthi is a member of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, the House Select Committee on Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party, and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. He also holds the position of the assistant whip at Bradley University, where his father earned a position as a professor, and the family had the opportunity to grow up in the middle class.

Peoria’s public schools were Krishnamoorthi’s educational home, and he excelled academically enough at Richwoods High School to be named valedictorian of his graduating class. Krishnamoorthi received his Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Princeton University, where he also received the university’s highest honor for academic achievement. After that, he graduated from Harvard Law School with a Juris Doctor degree and several benefits. While at Harvard Law School, Krishnamoorthi served as the Managing Editor of the Harvard Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Law Review. He also authored an essay in a legal journal on introducing Local School Councils into Chicago’s public primary schools.

After receiving his degree from Harvard, Krishnamoorthi worked as a legal clerk for Joan B. Gottschall and also participated in Barack Obama’s campaign for the United States House of Representatives in the year 2000. In addition, he worked as an issues director for Barack Obama’s campaign for the United States Senate in 2004, and he assisted him in planning his keynote speech for the Democratic National Convention in 2004.

After being named to the Illinois Housing Development Authority Board, Krishnamoorthi began his legal career as a private practitioner. Subsequently, he worked as a special assistant attorney general under Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, assisting in establishing the state’s anti-corruption unit. Between 2007 and 2009, he held the position of deputy state treasurer under Illinois Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias. After that, he became vice chairman of the Illinois Innovation Council. Before running for office in Congress, he stepped down from his position as president of a group of small high-tech enterprises in the Chicago region to avoid any potential conflicts of interest.

In 2010, Krishnamoorthi sought the candidature for the position of Illinois Comptroller offered by the Democratic Party. David E. Miller defeated him in the primary election by less than one percent of the vote. In 2012, he attempted to win the Democratic nomination for the 8th Congressional District of Illinois seat in the United States House of Representatives. Still, he was unsuccessful and lost to Tammy Duckworth. In 2016, while Duckworth was running for a seat in the United States Senate, Krishnamoorthi once again announced that he would be running for the same office.

Members of the House of Representatives. He won the primary election in March 2016 with 57% of the vote, defeating Michael Noland, who received 29% of the vote, and Deb Bullwinkel, who received 13%. After running a campaign in which he promised to work for middle-class families in Congress, Krishnamoorthi successfully defeated the Republican candidate Pete DiCianni in the general election held in November. He received 58.1% of the vote. In the 2018 Democratic primary, Krishnamoorthi had no opponents and won the general election with more than 66 percent of the vote.

In the Democratic primary for the year 2020, Krishnamoorthi earned 80% of the vote. In the general election, he won by a margin of 73% to 26% against the Libertarian candidate Preston Nelson. With 71% of the vote, Krishnamoorthi was victorious in the race for the Democratic nomination in 2022. During the general election, he was included on the “Top Target” list the National Republican Congressional Committee compiled. By a margin of 14 points, Krishnamoorthi was victorious in his bid to become the Democratic candidate for a fourth term in office.

When asked why he went to the inauguration of President Donald Trump in January 2017, Krishnamoorthi said that he did so in part “because I want President Trump to look at the crowd and Congress and see on day one that he will be strongly opposed if he continues to pursue policies that hurt working families.” Krishnamoorthi was a guest at the event. The day before Donald Trump was sworn into office, Krishnamoorthi was named on a list of “up-and-coming leaders of the Trump resistance in Washington” published in The Guardian.

In May of 2022, Krishnamoorthi participated in a ceremony recognizing the Village of Hoffman Estates’ formal acceptance of a $150,000 Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant that Krishnamoorthi had secured for the Hoffman Estates Domestic Violence Project. Also present at the ceremony were Mayor McLeod, WINGS President and CEO Rebecca Darr, and Chief of Police Kathryn Cawley.

Through the expansion of specialized police training, the provision of money for a domestic violence counselor, and the establishment of an emergency fund to help survivors of domestic abuse, this financing makes it possible for local organizations to deliver social services to the community that is relevant to the fight against domestic violence. In honor of the federal money he won for a mobile response unit for mental health and drug usage, Krishnamoorthi joined other local authorities in Schaumburg in June 2022 to present the Schaumburg Police Department with a $340,000 cheque. The event took place in Schaumburg.

Through the implementation of this unit by the Schaumburg Police Department, the Elk Grove Police Department, the Start Here Addiction Rehabilitation and Education Programme, the Foglia Treatment Centre, the Kenneth Young Centre, and Live4Lali, the police are now able to respond to calls placed to 911 through the use of crisis intervention that is supervised by social workers and community response professionals who have experience in dealing with mental health and substance disorders.

In June 2017, the House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved the Thompson-Krishnamoorthi Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act. This bill would rewrite the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act and provide states greater leeway in implementing the law. In November of 2017, Krishnamoorthi and GT Thompson, along with 235 other members of the House, co-led an effort to encourage the Senate education committee to take up the measure by writing a letter to the committee.

In July 2018, President Donald Trump became the nation’s 45th president after passing the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act via the Senate. During a discussion on the floor of the House of Representatives in January 2017, Krishnamoorthi advocated against repealing the Affordable Care Act. Krishnamoorthi, drawing on his expertise managing small companies, said that “repealing the Affordable Care Act without providing a suitable replacement would be catastrophic for our economy and harmful to millions of families in the middle class.”

It is possible that the local economy in the 8th district of Illinois might contract by more than $550 million and that more than 4,000 jobs could be lost. I have experience with the significance of providing employees and businesses with access to health insurance. Without the safeguards provided by the Affordability Care Act, we will see fewer individuals willing to take the risk of starting their own business and fewer employees ready to take the risk of working for a new company. In July 2017, Krishnamoorthi presented the Presidential Pardon Transparency Act, which would mandate that any pardons issued by the president be made public knowledge within three days of the pardon’s issuance.

Following allegations that President Trump had consulted top officials and the White House counsel over his potential to pardon colleagues, family members, and himself, lawmakers moved quickly to pass the measure. The measure was reintroduced in 2019 after being tabled without a vote in 2018. During a hearing held by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform in October 2017, Krishnamoorthi questioned the head of the National Background Investigations Bureau over the number of errors made in the processing of Jared Kushner’s security clearance.

Director Phalen stated that he had never witnessed an applicant having to submit four addenda detailing over 100 errors and omissions to keep their security clearance once those errors had been identified, in response to repeated questions asking whether he could recall “if there has ever been an applicant having to submit four addenda detailing over 100 errors and omissions to keep their security clearance once those errors have been identified.”Krishnamoorthi wrote the KREMLIN Act, which received approval from the House of Representatives in March 2019 with backing from both parties. As a result of this measure, the Director of National Intelligence would be required to report intelligence assessments to Congress about the stance and intentions of the Russian Federation and the leaders of the Russian Federation about NATO and the members of NATO.

Both the Seeding Enterprises in the Microelectronics Industry (SEMI) Act and the Geospatial Partnership for Security (GPS) Act were written by Krishnamoorthi. Under the provisions of the SEMI Act, the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA) would be granted $15 million to conduct research and development on innovative microelectronics and computer technologies. The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) would receive increased funds due to the passage of the GPS Act. This additional cash would improve access to and collaboration between the NGA and private geospatial intelligence data and services providers. Krishnamoorthi’s involvement in the impeachment of Trump was significant because he served on both the House Oversight Committee and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

As a member of the Intelligence Committee, Krishnamoorthi also took part in televised public hearings and questioned numerous witnesses presented before the committee concerning the investigation into the allegations made against Trump. This investigation was assigned to both the Oversight Committee and the Intelligence Committee. The rapid expansion of two-way commerce between the United States and India proves that the links that bind our democracies are becoming even more robust. This is a result of our cooperation, which contributes to the success of both our countries economies and the safety and stability of the globe.

In response to the recent announcement that the United States overtook China as India’s largest trading partner in 2022-23, Krishnamoorthi stated, “Even though the United States has become India’s largest trading partner, we must continue to recognize the enormous potential for further growth to strengthen both of our economies and create American jobs.”Thousands of Indians currently employed in the United States are pleased to hear about a bill recently proposed in the United States House of Representatives by Raja Krishnamoorthi (Democrat-Illinois) and Larry Bucshon (Republican-Indiana).

According to a press statement issued by the office of Congressman Krishnamoorthi a week ago, the “Eliminating Backlogs Act of 2023” proposal would allow additional freedom to utilize already granted work visas that firms sorely need. Because of the per-country quota, it is good knowledge that Indian nationals working in the United States on temporary work permits, such as H-1Bs, have the most extended wait times for obtaining employment-based permanent residence visas or green cards. Should it become law, the Eliminating Backlogs Act would significantly assist working Indians in the United States.
